Chapter 2381

Jason glanced at his phone and said in an even tone, "I've got a little get-together with some classmates tonight."

Sophia responded with a smile, "Perfect, take me with you then."

Jason's heart skipped a beat, his voice softening, "You want to come along?"

Beaming, Sophia replied, "Yeah, my old classmates are having a gathering at The Night, too. So, I'll hitch a ride with you; saves me from driving!"

Jason, "...". The tender feelings brewing inside him silently dissipated as he inquired, "Which floor?"

"The third."

Jason nodded slightly, "Alright, I got it. I'll take you when we leave."

"Thanks, Jason!" Sophia squinted happily, picking up her laptop, "I'm heading home, bye!"C0pyright © 2024 Nôv)(elDrama.Org.

Jason frowned, "Leaving already? Is your workday over?"

"Huh?" Sophia paused, confused.

Jason tossed a few design briefs her way, "Get these drafts done before it gets dark, or forget about the reunion!"

Sophia let out a sigh and sat back down, mumbling, "Damn capitalists," as she picked up the design plans.

Sitting across from her, Jason couldn't help but smirk at her muttering, returning his gaze to the documents.

Sophia stayed for lunch at the Gilder residence, continuing their work into the afternoon.

Seated across a desk, one reviewing documents and the other sketching out designs, they occasionally bickered but also took time to discuss work matters. Overall, the atmosphere remained congenial.

As evening approached, Sophia took a long stretch, "What a fulfilling day. Feels good!"

Leaning back, Jason watched her with a low chuckle, "Still sore?"

Twisting around, she exclaimed, "Much better, Mr. Gilder. You're amazing!"

Ignoring her flattery, Jason noted, "It's getting dark. Time to get ready."

"I'll head home and change!" Sophia began packing her things.

"No need to change!" His deep gaze locked onto her, his voice carrying an unnoticeable caress, "You look great as you are."

"Really?" Sophia looked up, her eyes meeting his intense, focused gaze, and froze for a moment.

Jason continued to look at her, his deep eyes softly shining with unhidden warmth.

Sophia's heart raced, and she quickly looked away, mumbling, "I should get going."

"I'll come to pick you up."

"Just call me!"

"Alright."

After finalizing plans, Sophia quickly left, her farewell to Mrs. Gilder somewhat distracted. Once outside,

the brisk air snapped her

reality.

She tapped her forehead, wondering why she was overthinking things.

Their friendship since childhood was pure and simple; why complicate it with other feelings?

Besides, Jason had liked Estelle before. Even if those feelings had faded, it wasn't likely he'd turn to her.

He'd always found her annoying; it was impossible he'd like her!

Maybe it was just the sunset light, soft and misleading, creating illusions as it fell upon his glasses.

With a sigh of relief, Sophia felt

calmer, convincing herself she had

misread the situation. She skipped home light-heartedly.

Upon arriving, her mother Jasmine shouted from upstairs, "How old are you, still hopping around? Can't you act a bit more dignified? Otherwise, you'll never get married!"

Looking up, Sophia retorted, "I'll be hopping and skipping even at eighty!"

Jasmine, holding an orange, tossed it at her, "An eighty-year-old bouncing around would mean she's got a screw loose!"
