Chapter 216
Chapter 216
Out of the blue, Evander reached out and grabbed Angeline’s arm before scooping her up in a bridal carry.
Locking the car door, he headed toward the hospital with huge strides with her in his arms. He called the elevator and went to the hospital room on the top floor.
Throughout it all, Angeline hugged his neck tightly. Running a fever in the first place and having been in the rain, she couldn’t stop shivering right then, her head spinning.
All she could do was rest all her weight on the man and keep her eyes closed, allowing him to carry her into the hospital room. Without realizing it, she had already ended up in the bathroom.
It wasn’t until she was placed in a bathtub and a gigantic hand began unfastening her clothes that some of her senses returned to her. Clutching at her collar, she eyed Evander warily.
“W-Why did you strip off your shirt? What do you want to do?”
“Are you afraid? You were very aggressive when you kissed me, though.”
Evander’s tone was teasing. His shirt was hanging off him then, revealing his flawless eight-pack abs. He was leaning down slightly, and that angle afforded Angeline an even clearer view.
For a moment, words eluded her.
She lowered her head, her face stained with a hint of crimson. “That’s an entirely different matter. Besides, I want to take a bath. You can’t stay and watch at the side, can you?”
“Why not?”
Evander merely shrugged, not at all bothered. In fact, a wicked gleam glinted in his eyes.
“I want to take a bath as well. Why don’t we do it together, and I’ll help to lather you?”
“What a scoundrel!”
Shooting him a glare in embarrassment, Angeline continued stammering, “Don’t forget that Francesca, Floretta, and Sebastian are also in this hospital room. Stop acting so reckless, or it’d be bad if they were to overhear!”
“Don’t worry about that. Ever since the doctor checked you over, I arranged for a hospital room for them next door,” Evander explained unhurriedly, an unperturbed expression on his face.
His words left Angeline without a retort.
Ah, no wonder!
As a matter of fact, she had found it peculiar that no one came to check on them when they created such noise earlier.
Although they had gone all the way and seen each other in their birthday suits before, that happened in the dark of the night.
As such, she still couldn’t accept having a man feast his eyes on her body candidly.
“Bathe by yourself if you want to do so. There’s no need to do it with me.”
While saying that, she got up from the bathtub, determined to leave the bathroom despite her dizziness.
However, no sooner had her hand come into contact with the door handle than Evander grabbed her arm hard and yanked her back into his embrace.
“Ahh!”
To begin with, the ground was slippery from the puddles of water, so when he pulled her forcefully, she hit his chest squarely.
In the next second, Evander suddenly turned on the faucet, upon which warm water rained down on them. As the temperature in the bathroom gradually rose, a layer of steam manifested in the air.
He looked down at the woman in his arms. Without any makeup, she appeared all the purer and alluring, every gesture of hers making his heart skip a beat.
Slowly, his gaze softened. Honestly, he had no ulterior motives when he prepared another hospital room for Francesca and the others. He was merely worried that the children would be infected by Angeline.
Verily, he never expected her to chase after him in the torrential rain. The instant he laid eyes on her, he fell for her once more.
She’s the woman I want to protect for the rest of my life!
“Let go of me, Evander. I’m running a cold, so I don’t want to pass it on to you.” Angeline coughed slightly.
Aversion was written all over her face. Lifting her hand, she tried to shove at the man’s shoulder, but she couldn’t budge him even after expanding much effort for a long time.
“A fever, you mean? I’ll help you ease it. It’ll be even more effective than taking medicine.”
Evander’s voice was deep and mesmerizing. Even as he spoke, his fingers deftly unbuttoned her shirt, brushing across every inch of her skin.
Angeline fell silent.
She tilted her head back, a broken moan escaping her mouth. Her fingers gripped his muscular arms tightly, her body vibrating with desire.
Before she could resist, she had already fallen into his tenderness and hadn’t the strength to do so. In the end, she just allowed him to take her.
She couldn’t quite remember what happened later, only retaining the memory of feeling as though her entire body was on fire. Flames licked her all over, and she spun out of control.
Evander put her through the wringer until late at night before carrying her out of the bathroom. By then, Angeline was in such a daze that she couldn’t even open her eyes.
No longer perturbed about modesty, she allowed him to wipe her dry and carry her back to the bed.
After he had pulled the covers over her, she inexplicably felt much better, and it wasn’t all that difficult to breathe anymore.
Thereafter, she slumbered deeply. By the time she woke up again, it was already late in the morning the following day.
When she opened her eyes, she was greeted by the sight of two children beside her hospital bed, one on the left and the other on the right. Both of them regarded her with concern etched across their features.
“You’re awake, Angel?”
Gazing at Angeline in excitement, Floretta patted her chest in relief.
She then continued, “This is great! Daddy said he wasn’t sure when you’d wake up and ordered us not to disturb you. Sebastian and I have been standing guard by your bed, not daring to make a single peep.”
Moved by her words, Angeline reached out and caressed her hair.
Chuckling, she praised, “What good kids! Here, help me up.”
“Sure!”
At that, Floretta and Sebastian stretched out a hand and took her arm, pulling her up from the bed.
At that exact moment, Francesca knocked on the door before walking into the room with the medicine. Pouring a glass of hot water, she held the two items out to Angeline.
“Ms. Sorelle, before Mr. Golding left, he ordered me to feed you the medicine when you wake up.”
“Thank you.”
Angeline reached out and took the glass of water, but the scalding temperature made it impossible for her to drink it straight away.
With a frown marring her countenance, she inquired, “Where’s Evander?”
“Mr. Golding has gone to work in the morning, and it’s now almost one o’clock in the afternoon,” Francesca answered smilingly.
At once, shock filled Angeline’s eyes.
“Oh my gosh, I slept for that long?” she exclaimed. All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
“Sick people are weak, so it’s normal to sleep longer.”
Francesca giggled softly before she eyed Angeline with a suggestive smile in her eyes.
“By the way, Ms. Sorelle, Mr. Golding specially made you oatmeal before he left. Would you like to have some?”
“Evander made it personally?”
Angeline sounded very much skeptical.
“Yes. Speaking of that, even I can’t quite believe it. Mr. Golding had never stepped foot in the kitchen, but he sought me out early morning today and asked about the specific steps to make oatmeal.”
Angeline said nothing, but a sliver of warmth crept into her after hearing that.
Her lips curved upward a fraction, and a delighted smile inexorably bloomed on her face.
For my sake, Evander has really done a lot of things I never dared imagine in the past!
Not only did she take note of his change, but she was also touched inwardly.
