Chapter 107
“What are you doing here?” I asked.
“I’m meeting a couple of my friends here, we come every Sunday night,” he said. “You look nice.”
I blushed a little. “Thank you,” I said.
“Are you meeting someone here?” He asked.
Oh shit, my date. “I am,” I said. “I’m meeting an old friend of mine.”
“Excuse me, are you Hazel?” I heard another voice behind me say. I turned my head to look.
“Uh. ” I said.
“I’m Dan, Rachel’s friend,” he said, smiling awkwardly at me.
I closed my eyes. His timing could not have been worse. “Oh, hi, yes, I’m Hazel,” I opened my eyes and turned fully to face him now, avoiding Logan who I’m sure was listening/watching intently.
“Shall we?” He offered his arm to me.
I hesitated, then gingerly took it. I turned back to Logan. “Uh, see you tomorrow?”
He narrowed his brow at me, confusion all over his face. “Yeah, see you.”
“Who was that?” Dan asked as he held open the front door for me..
“My boss, actually,” I said.
“Oh!” He exclaimed. “You’ll have to tell me about what you do once we get our drinks,” he smiled at me.
I smiled back. Well alright, I thought. Already way better than Date #1.
“What would you like? The drinks are on me,” he said.
I
“A moscato would be great,” I said to the bartender.
“Make that two, please,” Dan said.
After we got our glasses of wine we looked around. The place was largely empty, except for the table where Logan and his friends were at.
“Let’s sit away from your boss, I get the feeling you could use a break from him,” Dan said.
“You have no idea,” I said. I liked this guy. I wondered briefly what horrible thing awaited us that would ruin this date.
We found a cozy little booth across the room from Logan and Co. I glanced back at Logan as we talked to it, and noticed he was staring hard at us.
Dan gestured to the round booth seat and I scooted my way to the center. He scooted himself in afterwards, sitting close enough to be sweet but not so close I felt creeped out.
“So tell me about your job. What do you do?” He asked
I described our company and told him what I did. I told him about how the last couple months were

mostly me helping Logan plan and buy things for his wife. I left out the more insane details, like my sister being the wife and how he and I kissed a couple times,
Do you like your job?” He asked.
I thought for a moment. I guess I had never really asked myself that question. It was just something I did that I was good at and that helped me make money. “I guess it’s not what I want to be doing, but there are certainly worse jobs out there “I shrugged.
“What would you rather be doing?”
Ah. I wasn’t sure I wanted to talk about my failed acting pursuits. It pained me to even think about it. But I felt like Dan would be kind about it, which was more than I could say for dates 1-3.
1 actually went to college to study acting.” I said, trying to make it sound like it didn’t break my heart into a million pieces that I wasn’t doing any acting at all now.
“No way, so did I Dan’s face lit up.
“Really? Is that what you do for a living?” I asked, partially wondering if he was messing with me
“Nah,” he said, slumping back against the booth. We both seem to be in the same boat. I tried right after school, but eventually I decided I wanted some actual money so I found a boring 9 to fiver. Been there ever since.”
“My condolences,” I said, patting his forearm that was resting on the table. Nôvel(D)rama.Org's content.
He smiled at me then looked towards Logan’s table. “I’ve been trying to ignore it, but your boss has been looking at us like, the whole time we’ve been sitting here. It’s kind of weirding me out.”
I turned and looked. As soon as I did, Logan turned his head away from us.
“Do you want me to go over and say something to him? Dan offered.
I shook my head. “Hopefully he’ll stop now that he’s been caught.”
Dan took a sip of his wine and I followed suit. “You know,” he said. “I didn’t have much hope for this date tonight, but I’m really enjoying myself. Rachel has set me up with some not so great people.”
“Oh my god, me too! I just had three of the worst dates of my life this weekend thanks to her. I was worried this would be the same.”
He laughed. “Which one was the worst?”
“That’s a hard choice, but I would have to say the guy I was supposed to go out with this morning “I briefly described Date #3’s early morning shenanigans
Dan laughed after I was done “Okay, that is pretty terrible”
“What was your worst Rachel–induced date?” I asked
“Hmm,” he thought for a moment “Oh, I know She set me up on a date with a much older rich lady. 1 thought the poor women was going to die at any moment. But Rachel said she thought i could use a
sugar momma”
I gasped and playfully hit hus am No way! Rachel just tried to set me up with an old rich guy tool”

“What!” Dan exclaimed.
We doubled over in laughter, leaning into each other. He placed one of his hands on mine that was resting on the table. After a moment the laughter subsided, and he gave me a sweet smile, his hand still on mine.
“Would you like more wine?” He asked.
“Sure,” I said with a smile.
He grabbed both of our glasses and went up to the bartender. As soon as he got up, I saw Logan stand up from his table. He walked swiftly over to me.
“What are you doing?” He demanded.
“Excuse me?” I said, immediately irritated by both the question and the fact that he could not seem to
leave me alone.
“You’re over here flirting and carrying on like you’re single. Does your husband know you are out with another man?”
I narrowed my brows at him.
“Hazel, is everything okay?” Dan had returned with our glasses of wine and stood behind Logan, glaring at
him.
“Yeah,” I said. “My boss was just leaving.” I glared pointedly at Logan.
Logan, however, ignored me. He turned to Dan. “Did she happen to mention to you that she’s married?”
The color drained from my face and I gasped. Did he really just…?
Dan turned to me. “Is this true?” He asked.
“It’s look, I can explain…” I floundered.
He scoffed and shook his head at me. “I knew this date was too good to be true.” He slammed the wine glasses on the table and turned on his heels, storming away from the table.
“Dan, wait!” I scooted myself out of the booth, but it was too late. He was already gone.
I turned back to Logan and glared.
“Stay out of my goddamn business!” I yelled at him.
