Chapter 0090
Chapter 0090
Mia's stomach ached intensely, and she couldn't shake the worry about her baby's wellbeing.
As soon as Hunter got out, she forced herself to sit up and get dressed, wincing through the pain. Then, out of the corner of her eye, she spotted him hailing a cab outside the window.
A hint of bitterness crept over her. He had scoffed at her for suggesting a cab, calling it "filthy" because so many people had used it. However, he didn't seem to mind now as he was rushing off to Jenna. The double standard was painfully clear. Once she had made sure her clothes were all in place, she stepped out of the car. Charles hurried over as soon as he saw her.
"Ma'am, why don't you let me take you home? Mr. Jasper requested it."
"That won't be necessary. I'll get my own ride," she replied, looking away. The very thought of sitting in that car, where Jenna had been, made her stomach turn. After what had just happened in the backseat, her nausea only intensified. "But, ma'am..." Charles hesitated, noticing her pale face, clearly worried about her condition.
Mia's stomach hurt terribly as she waved down a cab, forcing a weak smile at Charles, "If Hunter gives you trouble, just tell him it's because I couldn't stand being in a car Jenna's been in."
Charles's face tightened. "Ma'am, I can't really say that..."
Mia smiled faintly, trying to reassure him. "Don't worry. It's fine, just tell him the truth." He wouldn't do anything since she was just being honest.
Reluctantly, he nodded. "But you don't look well. Please, let me at least take you home."
Anyone working for the Jasper family knew about Hunter and Jenna's relationship, so Charles was hesitant to persuade Mia further. He could only do his best to help her in whatever small ways he could. Mia shook her head. "No, really. I'll be fine."NôvelDrama.Org owns this.
Before Charles could protest, a car suddenly pulled up beside them, and the window rolled down to
reveal Zac.
"Need a ride, Mia?" he asked gently.
Mia looked at him, conflicted, but finally nodded, turning to Charles. "Thanks, but a friend will take me home."
With a quick nod, Charles stepped back, watching her get into Zac's car. As soon as she settled in, Zac leaned over to buckle her seatbelt.
"You don't look well. I'll take you to the hospital," he said, his voice full of concern.
Mia took a shaky breath, her voice barely a whisper. "I thought you left earlier. How did you end up here?"
"I was visiting a client nearby and happened to see you on the roadside," Zac replied smoothly, though in truth, he had purposely turned back out of worry. It seemed fate had brought him back just in time. Mia breathed a sigh of relief. "What a coincidence!"
"Quite the coincidence," Zac replied, turning slightly to look at her. "Hunter... hasn't been treating you well, has he?" He asked carefully, as if afraid of reopening old wounds.
Three years ago, if he had known Hunter didn't love her, he would have taken Mia away, no matter what. But life doesn't have do-overs.
Mia gave a small smile. "He's... okay with me."
After all, since marrying him, her wardrobe had been constantly refreshed with the latest season's pieces, new jewelry was delivered regularly, and her closet was filled with designer bags he had bought for her. In that regard, Hunter had never been stingy. The only issue was that he didn't love her.
"Mia, you used to tell me everything. You know you still can. I'm always here to listen," Zac reassured, noticing her reluctance but not pressing further.
Mia felt a strange pang of sadness. For so many years, she had confided everything in Zac. But ever since Xena had returned, there had been a distance between them and she had stopped opening up to him.
Gathering her thoughts, she decided to change the subject. "Zac, you're working at the Ford Corporation now so who's managing the law firm?" She didn't think Carter had the capability as he was just a spoiled rich kid
