Chapter 817
Chapter 817
Yvonne felt deeply hurt and said, “Mrs. Yates Senior, I just wanted to remind you not to be deceived by
that woman. How can you label me as uncivilized?”
Betty wasn’t swayed by Yvonne’s attempts. “Don’t play the victim with me. Caroline’s my special guest, yet
you’re being so rude to her. I will take this up with management to make sure they never let you back on
this beach.”
Yvonne’s expression changed drastically. She responded, “Mrs. Yates Senior, you can’t do that. My mom
is a stakeholder at this beach as well.”
Betty chuckled and said, “Your mother doesn’t own enough shares to call the shots here. Knowing her, I
bet she would agree with my decision if she found out what Content (C) Nôv/elDra/ma.Org.
you did.”
Having said her piece, Betty was no longer interested in dragging out her confrontation with Yvonne. She
called out to a nearby staff member and instructed, “Get her out of my sight. I can’t stand to look at her
anymore.
“Yes, ma’am.” The staff member immediately signaled to his colleagues and escorted Yvonne away.
After Yvonne left, Betty boarded the cruise ship and noticed Caroline’s pale complexion. Betty assumed
that Caroline felt unsettled because of Yvonne.
She quickly went to Caroline’s side and comforted her, saying, “Ignore her. She’s my friend’s daughter.
She went missing and was recently found.
“That’s why my friend dotes on her and spoils her rotten. Now she’s become a privileged little brat-”
Before Betty could finish her sentence, Caroline collapsed abruptly. Alarmed, Betty hastily reached out to
keep Caroline from falling over.
Some of the staff members noticed Betty in distress and rushed over to help. They quickly helped her
carry Caroline to bed.
There was a doctor on the cruise ship. The doctor conducted a brief examination of Caroline but couldn’t
find any issues with her.
Betty had no choice but to call Sean.
Upon hearing that Caroline had unexpectedly fainted, Sean grew anxious. “Weren’t you out at sea? How did she suddenly pass out?”
“I’m just as clueless.”
“Tell me everything that has happened in detail since you left home.”
Betty recounted everything without omitting a single detail, even mentioning the interaction with Yvonne.
Sean knew what was wrong after hearing everything.
“It’s most likely because you mentioned Marietta, who had once acknowledged Caroline as her goddaughter. Marietta holds a special place in Caroline’s heart.”
Sean sighed. “Unfortunately, her past seems to haunt her, even though we’re in another country.”
“So that’s how it is.”
Betty couldn’t help but feel remorseful. “Sean, I’m sorry. It’s my fault. I should have brought Caroline onto
the cruise ship.”
“Mom, you didn’t mean for this to happen,” Sean reassured her. “Oh, and there’s medicine in Caroline’s bag. Get someone to give it to her. She should regain consciousness after taking it.”
“Alright.” Betty followed Sean’s guidance and gave the medicine to Caroline.
Caroline slowly regained consciousness. However, it seemed like she had no recollection of the earlier
events and appeared somewhat confused.
Betty couldn’t help but feel a deep sense of empathy. After arranging for some drinks and fruit to be brought to Caroline, she stepped outside and called Sean.
“This is so heartbreaking. Will she ever get better?”
Sean was aware that his mother was the type to shed tears even over fictional deaths on TV shows. He replied, “The doctor mentioned there’s a slim chance she could regain her memories, but it is unknown
how long it would take for her to do so.
“That’s like saying nothing at all,” Betty responded.
“And what about Kirk? Is he still in Easton?”
“Yeah, he’s handling things over there. I guess he’ll be back once it’s sorted out,” replied Sean.
“Does he not want to stay there anymore?”
“Now that everything is almost set up, he will probably let his subordinates handle things there.”
