Chapter 41
Sydney still rooted to her chair right in front of her already furious boss, Paxton. Her hands began to sweat in the full blown air conditioned office due to anxiety.
She already began to tear up and used her fingers slightly to pat them so her make up wouldn’t get smudge but already her mascara began to form black spots around her eye part.Exclusive © content by N(ô)ve/l/Drama.Org.
Paxton on the other hand, sat giving an “I do not gives two fucks” attitude while deep down he wanted Sydney to quite crying.
“I do not pay you monthly to see you cry in my office while I question you. So get a hold of yourself.” Paxton instructed when he finally got an idea of how he would make Sydney stop tearing up right in front of him without him showing any emotions signifying care.
“Really! I see now you God Forsaking and unfortunate being. You basically do not pay me monthly to question me about my personal life. I seek and tired of you treating me trash, like something worthless. I don’t know how I kept on dealing with your shit. I don’t know what kind of emotions I feel whenever I hear your name or your voice or even when you speak to me, Paxton.” All these was what roamed in Sydney’s mind.
She wanted to express it badly how Paxton always treated her even if she knew deep down it was not going to end well. She knew Paxton to be a very rude and strict person which disturbed her and caused her to think more about the flowers and the designed “I am sorry note” from Paxton she found on her desk.
She wanted to inquire from Paxton what he really wanted from her.
Sydney was still silent and lost in thought as Paxton interrupted her.
“Sydney.” He called with a low toned and sweet deep voice.
Sydney’s eyes widened in shock as she had never heard Paxton call her with such a tone.
Her eyes rose form where it was staring at her foot and met with Paxton’s eyes. She tried her best not make eye contact with him by staring at him then looking away within a seconds but she could not deny the fact that she felt something for him. An unexplainable emotion.
“Promise me that you will end things with my brother.” Paxton politely inquired with an unexplainable pitiful look in his eyes.
Sydney’s heart felt to heavy for her to carry and she felt like crying out her eyes but wanted to maintain herself at work at all cost.
Soon, her hands started hiding themselves beneath her office wear. She still kept mute and silent as Paxton still stared at her with putiful eyes and a determination in it ready for her to give him a yes and a promise.
“It’s fine. I totally understand I should not have thought I could trust you with this task.” Sydney voiced trying his best to convince her with all means.
“No wait!” Sydney spoke.
With this, Paxton drew his black Aston office chair backwards, stood on his feet and began walking towards her.
Her heart began to beat faster than normal and this time her thighs began to sweat and her feet began to shake.
Already, Paxton stood in front of her with his eyes together on his chest as he rested slightly on his desk waiting for what Sydney had to say.
“Fine I will break up with Jaxton.” Sydney eventually spoke out and immediately stood up.
“A promise? Promise me Sydney Shepherd.” Paxton uttered with a different kind of tone this time when he pronounced her full name.
“Promise.” Sydney replied in shock as she still tried to comprehend all she felt at the moment and why she agreed so easily.
“Why…but why do you want me to end things with your brother?” Sydney eventually questioned.
She finally developed the courage and pushed the heavy words out of her mouth with so much difficulty but Paxton pretended not to hear her.
“I guess you have a lot of work to do. You should leave now. Thank you for your time.” Paxton uttered unbothered.
He was back to acting rootless and savage again.
On the other hand, Sydney began to feel more confused at Paxton’s reply and so she tried to question him further.
“But…” she muttered slightly before she was interrupted by a knock on the door.
“Come in.” Paxton instructed without even caring about Sydney’s opinion.
“You are busy sir. I would wait outside till you’re done.” The smart employee retorted immediately he noticed Sydney’s presence in the office.
“I am not. She is about to leave.” Paxton uttered with a slight smirk on his face as he turned to where Sydney stood.
“Right.” Sydney responded and immediately bent a bit to pick of the black padded file on Paxton’s desk, turned around and when she got to the door she turned her neck a bit to look at Paxton and noticed he had been staring at her but once she stared back he looked away and then she proceeded to shut the door.
She hurriedly walked through the numerous offices on a quest to get to her own office so she could vent out all the emotions she felt. She tried her best not to get noticed by anyone and hoped that Jaxton was not in the office today.
“Please be careful.” Sydney retorted as another employee rubbed shoulders with her and caused all the files the employee held to fall. The whole floor within their space was littered with printed hard copies of important office work which was on its way to the shredding room.
She tried to look away which was not quite successful as the female employee noticed her mascara which was slightly smudged all around her eyes.

“Fuck!” Sydney lashed out, not even able to specify her emotions as she picked up her phone to send a text message to Jaxton.
