Chapter 70
still at
Brax strings for more than a few seconds, not doing or saying anything, just staring. It was quite…. something
I shdn’t know how to act
I was almost squirming where I was seated. It felt so wrong to be seated here like this, like some sort of betrayal even thought I don’t remember most of how I got here.
I knew it could not be as dramatic as the maid described it to be but I was just going to have to take her word for it. Brax
mally decided to put an end to his staring and shit the door bell him as he walked into the room, his eyes finally displaying an emotion that I could put a name on. His eyes were wide with surprise and laced with worry all at the same

“Aston? What are you doing here?” he asked, his voler like a sharp questioh. I knew Aston was the only thing that he found out of place. I found it weird too. Anyone would find it weird. Even the maids were having a field day going around and gossiping about it. I didn’t need to be told how Mara was going to react to the whole thing, I knew too well she was going to be out for my blood and while that worried me, 1 still needed to figure out how to act around the two brothers in the same space,
Aston’s eyes narrowed, his face tense. “I could ask you the same thing, Brax,” he said, his voice like a low growl even though he was chuckling only seconds ago.
I felt a surge of awkwardness, my heart racing like I was about to fall off a cliff. The air was thick with tension, like a heavy fog that refused to lift. I glanced at Aston, my eyes locking onto his, my heart pounding like a drum. I felt like an ant in between two elephants.
Brax walked towards me, his eyes fixed on mine, his footsteps sharp and with all the precision in the world. I wanted to check the look on Aston’s face but I didn’t dare to in fear that I would meet his eyes. The last thing I wanted to do was meet his eyes, I would pee in my f**g pants if I did so I just stared right at Brax instead. He was the softer elephant.
“Hey, Kira. How are you feeling?” he asked, his voice like a gentle breeze. “I heard about it as soon as I returned to the palace, I was so worried. Are you okay now? Do you feel better?” he rambled on worriedly, slipping in apologies even though I was pretty sure that he didn’t owe me any. I was the one that owed him an apology for always worrying him so much and getting him so worked up.
I swallowed hard, my words like a soft whisper. “I’m…I’m okay, Brax- Just a bit tired.” I blurted feeling really shameless. What right did I have to tell him that and worry him even more? I was sure holding it how I felt back would have felt even worse. When it came to Brax, I always felt the need to be honest. Like if I lied, he would see right through me.
, his hand reaching out to touch
Brax nodded, his eyes crinkling at the corners. “You’re still warm,” he my forehead. I felt a jolt of electricity, my heart racing like a runaway carriage. “You should get a lot of rest, you need it. I really hope you listen to me and not go running around the palace doing meaningless chores again.” He said and I wondered if he was still talking to me. He knew that I was a maid and I didn’t exactly have much of a choice so his words made me feel self conscious. I knew Aston was probably boiling seeing how we all knew that he was the controlling source behind most of the “meaningless chores” that he was talking about.
Mara would not be able to attempt to end by life with chores if he didn’t give her permission to but chores was not what landed me at the infirmary, it was almost drowning and I would have actually drowned if not for Aston.
I glanced at Aston, my eyes locking onto his, my heart pounding like a drum. He was watching us but his eyes was mostly focused on me. They were both drilling holes in my body with my eyes and I had never felt more uncomfortable in my life. It was even more uncomfortable than the first time I had to wear a bra.
Brax turned to Aston, his eyes narrowing “Aren’t you leaving?” he asked, his voice like a challenge. They were like two captains on one ship that were not ready to take orders from each other, I felt like a helpless passenger on the ship.
Aston’s eyes flashed, his voice loud and clear when he spoke. “No, I’m not. Why should I?” he retorted without mincing any

words
Bras raised an eyebrow, his voice like a gentle tease “Don’t you have other maids to check on
Aston’s face darkened, his voice like a low growl “Stop asking me unnecessary questions, Reax. Just leave if you’re done”
Brax chuckled, his voice like a mocking laugh “Oh. I’m not done I plan to spend an hour keeping Kira company. Is that not allowed?
Aston’s eyes flashes, his annoyance starting to show in the sound of his voice and the little rumbling sound he was making underneath. You know it’s not. You’re just trying to provoke
Brax shrugged, his eyes glinting like diamonds. “Maybe I am. But you’re the one who’s getting angry and what makes you think you’re the only one that gets to spend time with Kira anyway? Since you were so magnanimous and kind heartedly that you carried your maid all the way here in your arms, I’m sure you can be kind enough to let her spend some time with someone that’s not her boss. It’s the least you can do seeing as your mate almost killed her.”
“Twice.” Brax added when I thought he was done talking. The conversation was getting too heated and I didn’t know how to stop it
Aston’s face darkened, he was practically shooting lasers out of his eyes. “I’m leaving.” he said angrily as he got up from where he was seated, his voice like a low growl. He turned and strode out of the room, leaving me feeling more confused than I had ever been in my entire life. I was barely able to hold back the urge to go after him. The whole thing felt too
ominous.
After a few minutes of awkward silence. I turned to Brax, my voice like a soft whisper. “Why did you do that? It was amnecessary.” It was the first time that I would see Brax talk for so long with a straight face,
Brax laughed, his eyes crinkling at the corners, “I was just messing with my brother,” he said, his voice sounding as jovial as it used to and I marvelled at his ability to switch countenances so fast. It was like he was an entirely different person. This is the property of Nô-velDrama.Org.
I raised an eyebrow, my voice cautious. “It didn’t look like that to me. Neither of you smiled throughout the entire thing.” I noted even though I felt like it was not my place asking this kind of a question.
Brax chuckled, waving it off with his hands like it was nothing, like they didn’t look like they wanted to rip each other apart. “Oh, that’s just Aston being Aston. Don’t worry about it.”
I nodded, my mind still reeling from the tension between the two brothers. But I decided to drop it, it was not my place at all and I didn’t know how I felt about this new side of Brax that I just discovered. I wondered how many other sides there were to him. I knew he wasn’t all rainbows and sunshine but seeing this part of him was still shocking
“Okay, Brax. If you say so.” I told him and he nodded sweetly, joining me on the bed like he always did in my

I nodded, my mind still on Aston, my heart beating fast. But I forced a smile. “Yeah, sure. That sounds nice.” Although I wondered what kind of fun I was going to have with my wrist currently pre occupied with a needle and the weird headache that I was feeling. I also could not get my mind off the fact that Aston had to leave. I felt so guilty seeing as Brax also confirmed it that he was the one that brought me here, I would have passed away quietly in my room if it wasn’t for him.

“Are you listening to me?” Brax asked and I nodded even though I didn’t hear a word he said.
