Chapter 25
Chapter 25
A heartwarming discovery.
“Hey girls.” Damien thought it right to greet first before letting them know his mind. All the girls were standing before him. It was really strange that they always go in group like a flock of sheeps.
“Come live with me for few days –”
“Why would we?” This text is property of Nô/velD/rama.Org.
Claire had cut in. She didn’t even let him complete the statement. She continued.
“Looking for more slaves aren’t we?” He knew what she was doing, but he didn’t understand why she would continue to be like that? Could she at least be reasonable for once?
Though he’d been curious to know what Allison whispered to Claire the other day at the pond. He couldn’t ask Allison of course. But he could feel something in his guts. There must be a reason that Claire hates him that much.
“Would you let me finish –”
BITCH, he wanted to add but he couldn’t. He didn’t want his emotions to rule his mind. The matter was a serious and delicate one.
“I’m sure of what he is or how dangerous he is, but there’s a strange creature roaming the woods. It would be safer to come stay with me. For the meantime. Until I catch him and figure out whether or not he is a threat to us.”
As much as he didn’t like some of the girls’ ridiculous attitudes and composure, he couldn’t bring himself to being fine with one of them hurt. He felt responsible for their safety. The feeling was strange. Probably he felt that way because he’d never had something to rely on. “Is it a monster?”
Damien could see fear in Evelyn’s eyes. There must something interesting about her that he was yet to know. He could feel it. “I’m not sure what to call him yet… let’s not call names. But potentially, he’s dangerous.” “And you think we can’t take care of ourselves?” That was Mira stepping forward. Claire joined in at once. “No, he must feel like since he’s a man he could do everything. He must think of us as pushovers or something. He says we would be safe with him.”
Claire ended it with a scorn. Damien’s compassionate gaze turned into a gawk. At that moment, all he could think of Claire was A STUPID SPOILT BRAT WHO HAS NO SENSE OF JUDGEMENT. A GIRL WHO IS OBSESSED WITH LEADERSHIP.
Those were the thoughts which tumbled upon each other in his mind.
“We can take care of ourselves, you hear that? So go back to your new whore.”
Accortworming discovery,
Lisa spoke up. Damien was intrigued by her sudden change. He could recall that during most of his encounters with the girls, Lisa was always quiet. But what got into her now? Oh, he remembered. She must always stand a ground for her Crush. It was quite a reasonable thing to do, right? “I hope you come to your senses.” Damien nodded at them and walked past them. “That rude bastard!!!” Claire yelled at his back while they watched him go. Damien didn’t for a moment turn back to them. He kept on walking till he took a turn in the undergrowth.
“I should bury the corpse of those poachers.”
He decided. He wasn’t bothered about the girls anymore. Immediately he left them, he had moved on to something more important. It was just the matter of time before they come around, he knew. He got to where he’d left the corpses. He wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t find them there. He found the corpses and flipped out the window system. He brought out a spade from the system store and began to dig. After much effort, he buried the brothers. He still didn’t have the guts to take their clothes. He
was sure that sooner or later, he might find another opportunity that wouldn’t cost him much emotions. He didn’t bury the rifles. He picked them up and edged in the direction of the watchtower. He slid the rifles to his back; they had ropes hanging around them. He climbed up the Boabab tree and got to the top of the watchtower. He kept the guns there. He took that opportunity to have a scope of the whole island. The land seemed too big. But far towards his East, he could see mountains, but there seemed to be a little part of ocean surrounding the mountain. He couldn’t be sure yet. “I have a lot of things to do. I have to explore this island to see if there are other valuable things, or maybe threats.” “I have to start making big bows and arrows, maybe crossbows too.” “I need to plant rice around the castle, have a bathtub, or maybe a small pool, a pond and other necessary things. I need all those.” He could now afford to think about luxury other than the basic things necessary for survival. I guess that’s why it’s said that the human wants are insatiable. At first it was the need to survive, but now it’s the need to be comfortable.
Do you blame a heart which had been restless and chided all his life? Now that he had something he could call comfort, you bet he would make the best of it.
Nothing interesting seemed to be in view. He could see how blue the horizon of the ocean was. He felt like jumping into it from there and enjoy the water.
Since there was no threat in sight, he decided to slid down the tree. He would come back to
warming discovery
enjoy the view again. He hurried to the place where he kept the wolf. “Where did she go?”
He wasn’t confused, nor shocked. He felt a little bit moved in a way instead. He had left the door open when he was leaving. He didn’t want the wolf to have the feeling that she’s been locked in.
“I guess she’s not comfortable around here then.”
He concluded. He walked into the room.
“She didn’t even eat the bunny. It’s smelly already.” He kicked the bunny softly. He felt a kind of pity for the dead bunny. “Sorry mate, didn’t know that you’d be ignored. I wouldn’t had killed you.” (Ping! Jungle Wits: Wolves hates to be served a meal. They hunt for a reason. They like meat fresh, blood tasty, not sour.) “Oh.”
Damien nodded. He had no idea. How could he, he’d never lived in a forest before. Let alone a forest with cannibals, alongside nine girls who might end up draining his blood and strength. [Ping! System notification: A yacht approaching. Take the yacht for yourself and gain 5000 experience points.] “A yatch!!!” He exclaimed and rushed to the baobab tree. He climbed quickly up it. He looked, a yacht was approaching. It was somewhere close to the horizon, traveling in full speed.
“Oh shit.”
Damien realized that he didn’t have much time. He slid down and hurried back into the small room. He walked to a dark corner and brought out a surfboard he had made during the process of building the watchtower.
Off to the beach he ran.
