Chapter 69
Keiran
POV
As I watched my mate leave I had this nagging feeeling in my gut that I was wrong for letting her go. My wolf was restless, growing worse as the hours went by.
Hearing her voice in my head as she mindlinked me through the night brought some moments of comfort and relief but she was busy travelling and looking for clues, her updates would eventually grow shorter and farther in between. 'Hey Kieran, I'm leaving Eclipse pack lands now and we'll be travelling to the old Silverclaw Guardians territory. We should be there in six hours,
She didn't need to say it out loud for me to understand what she meant.
'Of course Love. Let me know when you get there. I love you,'
'I love you too,'
And that had been it.
She couldn't mind link me while she travelled and she couldn't afford to be distracted by me with a threat looming over us all. So I had to man up and just trust her and the six guards I sent her and her uncle with. Of course, it was all easier said than done.
My wolf was antsy and so was I, so all I could do was pace in my office. I had no idea how I would be able to sleep tonight, knowing that Artemis was out there, not even having slept in our bed for one night after coming home from Romania. I had no idea how she was doing it right now, but being a Spirit Wolf sounded draining.
"You're going to wear out the floorboards there."
I looked up at my father, only now noticing his presence as he stood at the entry way. He eyed me for a moment and I just sighed.
"Dad," I wasn't even sure what I wanted to say.
Being away from my mate was one thing, but I felt strange. My hands were shaking and I felt slightly jittery.
Is this what it felt like to do coke?
"Come here Son," My father said. He walked over to me and embraced me, rubbing and patting my back and I accepted the comfort of his arms.
"I don't know what to do. I feel like something horrible is going to happen soon and I can't calm my wolf," I admitted into his shoulders.
He pulled back from the hug, looking me in the eyes.
"I can't lie to you and say I know what's wrong, but I can help distract you," He offered.
It wasn't exactly what I wanted to hear, but I nodded.
I was sure Artemis would know what was wrong with my wolf, but she clearly wasn't here and that realisation only worsened my mood.
"Come on. The vampires are on the training grounds whooping your warriors' asses,"
That made me perk up as my wolf growled, suddenly eager to show the vampires our fighting skills. We both walked to the training grounds, and as my father had described, there were vampires and werewolves alike, all circled around one fight. Viktor was fighting Vaughn in the ring, the cocky vampire smirking at my slightly rough looking gamma.
"I thought you were the mightiest pack of them all," Viktor teased as he managed to avoid an attack.
"You have yet to fight a worthy opponent," I called out. The vampire looked up to me, smirking and stepping back from Vaughn.
"Has the mighty alpha come to challenge me?" He asked. I didn't verbally answer, jus took off my shirt and stepped into the makeshift ring. Vaughn stepped back into the crowd, making way for me.
"Okay then. Let's hope you can redeem your pack," The vampire smirked.
For a second, we just circled each other, until he grew impatient enough to attack first. He did manage to get several punches to my gut, his vampire speed surprising me.
He also had fast reflexes, thanks to said vampire speed which was quite annoying. However, I did notice that what he had in speed he lacked strength and stamina.
He was an impatient man who quickly grew clumsy as he continued making shots at me. So I managed to land a heavy punch right to the side of his head, leaving him in a daze.
He stumbled a little back and shook his head, narrowing his eyes on me as he finally refocused.Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.
His other weakness was that he clearly couldn't take a punch. He was so used to landing his own attacks quickly and taking out his opponents fast.
The first thing you learn in fighting is how to take a punch, not how to land one.
It was my turn to smirk as the vampire's moves became clumsy and erratic.
I managed to knock him to the ground, holding him down with my body weight before he could get up. I trapped his arms by his side and used my hands to grab his throat and expose it, ultimately ending the fight. Hearing my pack cheer, I got up, holding my and out to him. He took it and got up, dusting off his clothes.
"The Phantom Pack stands undefeated for a reason," I said cockily.
I suppose I was still holding a grudge against Viktor for that day when we first met. His fancy jet and luxurious hotel hadn't erased the memory of his claws on my mate on that day.
"I guess a pack is only as good as their alpha," He chuckled, running a hand through his hair.
"That was cool man," Apollo said, stepping up to me and slapping my back.
"You may have beaten me in combat, but I say we try with weapons this time," Viktor interrupted, gesturing to the weapons table not too far off. I scoffed, shaking my head.
"Your body is the most important weapon. I've beaten you Viktor, move on," I smirked. He shook his head but made his way over to the weapons table, with Apollo scurrying after him.
Weapons was very much his forte. I could tell he was willing to show off. I shook my head to myself, watching as Apollo pointed a sword at the vampire and they quickly engaged in a sword fight.
I turned to observe the rest of my warriors, watching as they all broke off into their own groups. With female warriors now joining the army, we had grown in numbers as the she wolves quickly progressed through the ranks. I smiled to myself.
This pack had come so far thanks to my lovely mate.
Feeling eyes on me, I turned and saw a young vampire boy staring at me, quickly looking away as he was caught.
He took a few steps towards me, as if walking over to me but then stopped and turned around. Clearly he wanted to say something, but seemed too shy to do so.
I walked over to him myself, curious as to what he wanted.
"Everything okay?"
He jumped at the sound of my voice, finally tuning back around. He was quite scrawny, clearly still young. He couldn't be older than seventeen.
"Yes Sir, everything's fine," He stuttered, clearing his throat awkwardly.
"Really? You don't look okay," I pointed out.
"It's nothing really," He said, looking away. I raised my brow, not sure if I should drop it or not. "You just look like someone I know. Do you have a brother, maybe a cousin?" He asked.
I wasn't expecting that question.
"No, I don't have a brother. I'm not sure if I have any cousins outside of this pack either," I answered honestly.
"Never mind. It wouldn't have made sense anyways since they're a vampire," He dismissed, shaking his head to himself. Before I could say anything, he scurried off.
"Keiran!" I heard my dad call out to me. "Come look at the spells the witches have done," He waved me over.
I quickly forgot about the young vampire and jogged over to my dad, once again pleasantly distracted from the absence of my mate.
