Chapter 8 Hello, Mr. Chairman
Chapter 8 Hello, Mr. Chairman
Tracy jolted at Baron’s words. Terry and Sherry were similarly shocked.
Trembling, Tracy stood, biting her lip tightly. Her makeup had run off, but it did nothing to mask her
incredible beauty.
Splat.
“Divorce?”
She slapped Baron across the face, raging, “Who do you take me for?
“I’ll admit that you too were a victim of what happened five years ago. If you didn’t want to get married,
you could have refused. Why, then, did you leave after the wedding?
“Do you have any idea how much humiliation I suffered after you left? Do you know how the children at
her kindergarten mock her for being a fatherless wild child?
“Do you know how awful it felt to have my daughter come up with our only wedding photo and ask me
countless times when her dad is coming back?
“I’ve waited for my husband all this time. My daughter’s waited for her father all this time. And now
you’re telling me – you want a divorce?
“Tell me, could you bear to do this to me? To our daughter?”
Tracy finally erupted into tears, as if letting out everything she’d endured on her own for five years.
Every rebuke stabbed into Baron’s heart. By the time Tracy truly started sobbing, he – the conquering
hero, who never once cried in pain from a thousand wounds – actually shed a tear.
Baron took a step forward, and wrapped Tracy tightly in his embrace.
“Let go of me! Get out! Get out of my life! Aren’t you going to divorce me? We’ll go to Civil Affairs first
thing tomorrow, then!” Tracy struggled as she continued to cry, hammering her fists against Baron’s
chest.
Baron’s arms were tighter than a bear trap. He held her in place as she railed against him, murmuring
into her ear, “I’m sorry. I’ll never leave you two again for the rest of my life!”
Seeing that Tracy was settling down, Sherry panicked, rushed forward, and forcefully separated the
two, seething, “Tracy’s telling you to get out, so what are you sticking around for? Get out!”
With one final thud, Baron was booted out.
Although they’d chased him out, Baron was actually happy. Tracy wasn’t willing to divorce him.
Be it for her reputation or for her daughter, staying together was the best outcome for Baron.
After he left Tracy’s home, Baron went straight to the Cona branch of the Brone Group.
The Brone Group was based in the state of Donas, established by Baron’s mother Elizabeth before
she’d met his father. When word of their union had got out, the Owen Clan had taken the company by
force.
The Owen Clan had only given Baron the Brone Group after hearing of his position in the Pola Islands.
Standing beneath the Brone company’s office building, Baron lamented the humiliation and hurt his
mother had endured, feeling his hackles rise.
“One day, I’m going to pay a personal visit to the Owen family.” The rage in his eyes slowly dimmed.
At this moment, a white Maserati stopped in the parking lot of the Brone Group, and a woman in formal
dress stepped out of the car.
This woman was Baron’s cheapskate sister-in-law Yuri, and the car was the same betrothal gift that the
Perry Clan had received only a few hours ago. She was driving it out so impatiently it was amusing.
“Yuri, I’m jealous! Catching the Lewis Clan’s eye and getting all these priceless gifts. When you marry
into that rich family, don’t forget me! I’m your best friend, you know!” Another woman, dressed in Brone
Company work attire, was all smiles as she walked towards Yuri.
Yuri took up the woman’s arm enthusiastically, beaming, “You’re the one person I’d never forget. It’s
actually me right now who needs your help.”
“Don’t worry your little head, Yuri! With my involvement, you won’t have any problems whatsoever.
After all, I’m the manager who decides who lives and dies in HR. If it hadn’t been for company policy, I
would have given you the position right away. But that’s fine! You’re just jumping through hoops in a
bit.”
“You have my thanks, revered manager!”
“Oh, NOW you’re being polite?”
……
The pair talked and laughed, seeming quite intimate.
“Baron!”
Seeing Baron upon walking to the doorway of the building, Yuri reared back, shocked, and her face
sank even before Baron could say anything. “You perverted stalker! My mother chased you out, and
now you’re harassing me instead? I’m telling you right now, I’m not helping you even if you got on your
knees.”
Baron frowned mildly, scoffing, “You think I’m stalking you? Are you sure you’re not just being
paranoid?”
Yuri floundered for words, but soon, she remembered something, and snorted, “You’re here to apply for
a job, aren’t you?”
Without saying a word, Baron ignored her and strode towards the office.
Before he’d moved but a little, Yuri blocked his way immediately, a mocking expression on her face.
“Look, Baron, I’d suggest you save your energy. You know what the Brone Group represents? It’s the
property of the Owen family of Donas. Sure, this branch in Cona was just established, but it’s not the
sort of company where any sort of trash can just get in.”
“Yuri, who’s this?” Bonnie asked dubiously.
Yuri looked at Baron disdainfully, replying, “He’s the garbage that swindled my sister five years ago.
Went on the run with stolen money for half a decade, and now that he’s used up his cash, he’s back to
make trouble for my sister again. You think my family would just let him saunter around? No, we just
chased him out.”
Bonnie gave a start, blurting out, “So this is the slimeball who defiled your sister?”
Just as she said it, she realised the man in question was standing right before her, and she clapped her
hand over her mouth, saying awkwardly, “Apologies!”
“Bonnie, he’s just garbage, and you were right, so why apologize?” Yuri said casually.
Bonnie shot Baron a glance, then said, “I’m sorry, but our company is full up with our quota. You may
leave now!”
This woman was obviously just backing Yuri up. The branch had only just been established, and NôvelDrama.Org content rights.
manpower was desperately needed - how could they be full up?
Baron didn’t pay any mind to their words. Forget this branch. The whole of the Brone Group belonged
to him.
Even without the Brone Group, the resources and wealth at his disposal were already far beyond the
Owen family.
Ignoring the refusal, Baron headed his way into the office.
Panicking, Bonnie took a few steps forward and blocked his way. “Why are you being difficult? I already
said that the Brone Group wasn’t hiring, so why are you still heading in? Another step and I call
security.”
“Get out of the way!”
Baron snapped, cold emanating from his body. Bonnie, frightened, backed away a few paces.
“You’ve got some nerve starting trouble at the door of the Brone Group, Baron.” Bonnie might have
been afraid of Baron, but Yuri wasn’t.
“What’s going on, Manager?”
A middle-aged man in a security uniform walked over to Bonnie.
Coldly, Bonnie pointed at Baron and seethed, “Bill, this man is trying to break into the company. I
suspect he has ill intentions. The chairman of the Brone Group is coming over today. If you let some
stranger in, you won’t just be fired.”
Bonnie’s tone was cautionary, and Bill jolted upright, barking into his radio. Soon, a dozen well-
equipped guards ran over.
“Let’s go, Yuri!” Bonnie shot Baron a cold glance.
Triumphantly, Yuri sneered at Baron, “Don’t even think of working in the Brone Group for as long as you
live!”
With that, she left alongside Bonnie.
‘Kid, this isn’t a playground. Get out this instant!” Bill said, his attitude cocky.
Baron’s eyes narrowed, and he said frigidly, “You don’t even know who I am and what I’m here for, and
you’re chasing me off? Is this how you guards do your work?”
Bill cocked an eyebrow. “The manager is saying you’re here to make trouble, so what’s the issue with
me chasing you off?”
“Anything she says goes? Do you enjoy being a lackey this much?”
The words struck the guards dumb.
“I’ve had enough of you, kid!”
Bill flew into a rage, barking. “On him! Beat this bastard into the dirt!”
There came a screech of tires.
All of a sudden, a black Audi A8 screamed to a halt in front of the Brone Group.
A man in a suit rushed out of the car.
“Mr. Camel, sir!” the guards stood up straight.
Camel didn’t even spare them a glance. Fearfully, he jogged in front of Baron and bowed. “Hello, Mr.
Chairman!”
