Such a simple, genuine hug made him feel as if his once-empty heart was suddenly overflowing. He watched her for a moment before wrapping his arms around her. The two of them nestled close together. It was one of those rare, warm, and peaceful moments they'd

chaotic mess.

The Bennett family members rushed over as soon as they got the news. With Josh still in surgery, they started their premature mourning. They were worried about seeming indifferent and missing out on any inheritance, turning the area outside the operating room into a Everett's expression turned stormy. "Everyone, out now!"

Some of Everett's uncles were reluctant. How could they leave at such a crucial time? If this was Josh's last moment, showing their faces might just get them a bigger slice of his estate.

But Everett wasn't having any of it. He called Derick, and soon enough, a team of bodyguards arrived, hauling each family member away.

Rebecca threw a venomous glare at Selena before leaving, clearly unhappy that Selena was allowed to stay. But she thought to herself, 'If Josh were to pass, Selena would lose her standing in the Bennett family, and I would make sure she was shown the door.' The only Bennett family member left was Carolina. She sat quietly on a bench, her face a blank slate, giving nothing away.

The recent drop in temperature made the hallway chilly, and sitting there too long made the cold seep into your bones. Noticing this, Selena went to the vending machine and bought three hot drinks. She returned and offered one to Carolina. "Mom, have something warm to keep you cozy."

Carolina shot her a cold glance and refused without a word. Even though she had expected it, Selena couldn't help but feel a bit awkward.

Everett looked over, a teasing smile playing on his lips, and said, "Selena, come over here. I'm thirsty."

"Oh, okay."

Selena walked over and handed him one of the drinks. Everett took it, popped open the cap, and handed it back to her. Then he grabbed the other two bottles, opened one, and casually tossed the last one toward trash can. The bottle arced

Selena was amazed.

A sense of unease gnawed at her.

The ticking clock on the wall seemed to stretch time endlessly, and everyone grew more anxious the longer they waited. Selena could feel Everett's hand growing colder, and no matter how tightly she held it, she couldn't warm him up.

Finally, the light above the operating room door turned off.

Dr. Campbell came out, looking worn out after the five-hour surgery. Everett's dark eyes locked onto him intensely, and he waited for news.

Selena held her breath, her heart racing wildly.

"Josh has been moved to the ICU... he... wants to talk to you..."

As soon as he spoke, Selena's heart sank. Was Josh about to give his final words?
