Chapter 43
Chapter 43
Liam stopped in his tracks, lifting his eyes. Celeste was beneath him, staring into his eyes, asking word
by word, “Have you fallen in love with me?”
Liam let go of her, sat up, and gave her a cold glance, “Don’t flatter yourself, Celeste! Before we get a
divorce, remember your identity and don’t do stupid things that others have to clean up for you!”
He put on his clothes, left the bedroom, and Celeste stared at the ceiling, laughing at herself.
Knowing full well that she had no place in his heart, even if it was just to provoke him, she couldn’t help
but have some expectations when she asked that question.
She hated herself for her uncontrollable heartbeat from Liam’s touch, and for her foolish hopefulness
despite knowing the outcome.
Her phone rang again, and Celeste unplugged the charger and answered.
“Letti?”
Trisha’s voice came through the phone, and Celeste replied, “It’s me.”
Trisha sighed with relief, “You scared me to death. Why didn’t you come back last night? I could not
reach you on the phone. Where did you go? I almost called the police!”
Celeste rubbed her temples, easing the hangover-induced headache, “I’m fine. Last night… I was at
my mom’s place, forgot to bring the charger, and the phone ran out of battery and shut down.”
She hid the fact that she was drunk so as not to worrying Trisha.
“Alright, as long as you’re okay. I was just worned you’d forget about the audition today. Are you still at
the hospital? I’ll come pick you up in a bit, and we can head over early to prepare.”
“No need, let’s meet directly at the hotel.”
“That works, see you in an hour.”
After hanging up, Celeste quickly got out of bed and started packing
Last nights clothes reeked of alcohol and couldn’t be worn again, so Celeste shamelessly went to the
wardrobe to pick out an outfit.
During her absence, Liam hadn’t touched her things. The wardrobe was still arranged the way she
used to have it, and there were even a few new spring outfits.
It was probably Sienna who had sent them. She was the only elder in the family who cared about her
When she first married into the family and attended a family dinner with Liam, she was ridiculed for her
outdated outfit
Although her family was also in business, they were incomparable to the Reed family.
Girls like Kaylee, who were real daughters from rich families, wore the latest seasonal outfits, while
she, wearing an old-fashioned suit, didn’t fit in with this group. Especially when standing next to Liam.
The mismatch was already foreshadowed.
The awkwardness at the family dinner was resolved by Sienna with a few words. Since then, each
quarter, someone would send her the latest outfits from various brands. Perhaps Sienna Reed’s
original intention was just for maintaining the Reed family’s profile in front of others, but for Celeste, the
care made her life much better
Not sure if the divorce stuff would hurt Sienna Reed’s feelings, Celeste suddenly felt a bit guilty looking
at those clothes.
When she finished tidying up and came downstairs, Liam was nowhere to be found, probably already
left.
As she was changing her shoes, the nanny stopped her, “Ma’am, breakfast is ready, have some before
you go.”
“Nah, I’ve got things to do.”
“At least have a few bite. Taking medicine on an empty stomach isn’t good for you.”
Celeste paused, only to see the nanny had already brought a bowl of dark, nasty-looking medicinal
soup over.
