Sweet Revenge: Jace & Emerald

Chapter 14

Five years later….

“Jack is doing well with his wife. When are you going to settle yours?” Kyle asked Jace, who looked at him and rolled his eyes.

“Instead of thinking about my life, why don’t you do the job I ask you to do?” Jace replied,

“I already did, and ACEGame agreed to a meeting to hear our proposal,” Kyle replied.

“Are you sure?” Jace asked, trying to confirm it. They had been asking for a meeting for two years in the company, but their CEO didn’t want to.

“Of course. It was because their boss lives in Europe and will be back in the country for good. He’s probably in the airport as we speak.”

“I see, so he must be very hands-on in business dealings. I want to collaborate with them. After I was sure that Jack was back to his old self and was happy with his wife, I started to feel this urge to create my own online game. But you know that it’s not that easy.” Jace replied.

“You know what? I don’t get you; why is it hard for you to do that when you’re famous when it comes to software.”

“It’s not hard; I’m not in the mood. I lack motivation.”

“Is it because of Emerald? Are you still thinking about her?” Kyle asked, which made Jace quiet. Over the years, he had been looking for his wife. He tried his best to find where she had gone but failed miserably. He spends so much money on different investigators, but she’s nowhere to be found. “Are you still not giving up on her? It’s been five years, Jace. You don’t know; she might have her new husband already.” Kyle added, making his friend glare at him.

“Just leave and prepare for the meeting. Ensure that everything we need will be sufficient to allow the ACEGame boss to collaborate with us. Did you get that?” he replied angrily, making poor Kyle leave his office.

After his friend leaves, Jace remembers the day Emerald left their mansion.

*** Flashback ***

Young Higginson was on the top step of the stairs when he saw Emerald walking her way to the entrance door. He meets Jack and his parents and sees his wife bowing to them before leaving the mansion with her luggage.

‘Why did she act like she doesn’t know Jack?’ Jace asked himself. Mrs. Higginson looked up to him,

“Jace, dear. Who is she?” Jessica asked curiously, making Jace return to his senses and go down.

“Jack, don’t you know her?” he asked his brother, who looked confused.

“Do I need to?” his brother replied, asking. “Who is she anyway? Why is she crying? Did you do something to the girl?”

“What?” Jace exclaimed. He couldn’t believe his brother asking him about Emerald, who was supposed to be the woman who hurt him.

“What’s going on, Jace? Who is that girl?” Nick, his father, chimed in.

“She’s Emerald,” he replied,

“Emerald?” the three exclaimed in unison, wide-eyed. They already had an idea about why the woman was crying. But they didn’t expect what Jace said next: “She’s my wife, and I ask her to sign our divorce papers.”

“What!!” Again, the three exclaimed, now looking at young Higginson accusingly.

“You hurt her because of me?” Jack asked.

“Let’s take a seat and talk.” Jessica interrupted, and they started walking to the living room before Jace told them what had happened. They were all shocked, especially Jack.

“But she’s not the Emerald that hurt me, Jace.” his brother said.

“They, why the hell did you write her name on that notebook?”

“Emerald? There’s a lot of Emerald in this world; how did you get revenge for me on that particular one.”

“Because you write her full name. Emerald Morgan!”

“Emerald Morgan? I remember that name; I think a friend of mine wanted me to know about her but totally forgot about it because of my personal dilemma, which you already knew.”

“What about her? Why did your friend want to know more about her?” Jace asked curiously.

“He has a client looking for a woman, and he said that Emerald Morgan was his lead. But he couldn’t get enough information from her, and there’s a lot of Emerald Morgan in the country, too.” Jack explained. Jace didn’t know what he would do, so he rushed out of his mansion, hoping he could still catch his wife. But to his dismay, Emerald was gone and couldn’t be found.

*** End of Flashback ***

‘Where are you, Emerald?’ He asked himself. ‘I did everything possible to find you, but you hid so well. Are you not going to come back to me? Did you really bury your love for me at the Mariana Trench?’

Meanwhile, in the airport, Emerald came from the arrival area on her way to the car where Creep and his wife were waiting for her. After five long years, she had just returned from Europe with her son Ace and his nanny Keng, as well as her friend and assistant Daryl. “Baby, you need to slow down,” she told her son, who didn’t want his nanny to hold him.All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.

“I’m no longer a baby, Mommy.” the boy replied, making Emerald and the others smile.

“Yeah, right.” She said, “But to me, you will always be my baby.” Then, pick the boy up and let him sit on her luggage before pushing it.

“Here! Here! M.!” A familiar voice of a man was heard from a distance, mixing with the noise of people who were busy looking for their families who welcomed them. Emerald searched for the owner and smiled when she found Creep and his wife, Elise, waving their hands at them.

“There they are,” Emerald said and started walking their way in Creep’s direction.

“And they look excited. Is that how they missed us?” The boy asked.

“They were always like that, Ace,” Daryl said. He, too, was friends with the couple.

“Of course, especially you. You know how much your Aunt Elise loves you.” Emerald replied, pushing the luggage. Elise met them halfway while Creep opened the car compartment.

When they reached the car, the boy got down from the luggage, while Creep took the luggage from Emerald and put it in the compartment with Daryl and Keng’s luggage before they all got in the car and drove home.

“Welcome back!” Creep and Elise shouted when they entered the mansion, making them all laugh.

“As if we lived here,” Emerald replied as they entered the living room. On the way to their house, young Morgan was amazed at the beautiful surroundings. She asked Creep to find her a house that she and her son, Ace, could live in, and she didn’t expect that he would get them a mansion.

“Well, what do you think of the house?” Creep asked.

“It’s big; I told you it’s not necessary.”

“You deserve this, M. After all your hard work, this is not even enough,” Elise replied. “And remember, Keng and Daryl will be staying with you. There are maids here, so you don’t need to stress yourself with household chores, so please, get a life.”

“And how many times do I need to tell you that I owe everything to you two?”

“Mom, you will only repeat that conversation again and again,” Ace said, making them all look at him.

“Your son is right, so stop complaining and accept it.” Creep chimed in. Emerald shook her head because she knew they would only go against her. That’s how they are. Whenever she felt thankful to them for everything that had happened in her life, they would give her credit back.

“You should know your mom as well.” Daryl chimed in.

“You should be thankful to me instead because I’m your lucky charm,” Ace said, making them all laugh and agree.

After a few more conversations, the couple left them and went home. Because they had just gotten back from a flight, Emerald decided to rest early, so she let Daryl and Keng go to their rooms. At the same time, she put her son to bed early before she went to her room.

“Welcome back, indeed,” Emerald told herself after she closed her room door. She leaned back and closed her eyes, thinking about the past she had tried to forget but couldn’t. “Why do I need to think about him? It’s in the past, and I shouldn’t get affected thinking about meeting him.” She added and opened her eyes before going to the bathroom to freshen up before bed.

‘See you, Jace Higginson.’ she thought before she fell asleep.
