Chapter 37 You’re Almost 30. Finally, There’s some Gossip About You

For a moment, silence hung over the dinner table. The family peeked at Ruben and Archibald next to him, yet both of them looked calm.

Supposedly, it was impossible for Ruben to know nothing of the gossip about Archibald, but why was he still so calm?

When the people were still wondering, Ruben blurted, "You’re almost 30 now, and finally, there’s some gossip about you. I thought you were gay."

Ruben’s words startled each one at the table. Did the master of the house just say that?

Even Archibald couldn’t resist coughing. What’s more, Ruben looked sideways at Archibald, and asked seriously in a sonorous voice, "It’s said that you took her to take a pregnancy test. Is she pregnant?"

Bang, clank. The noises of chopsticks and spoons falling into the bowls came.

'Grandpa Ruben, could you stop stunning us with your words?'

May closed her gaping mouth, picked up the chopsticks again that she had been too surprised to hold, and stared at Ruben admiringly. "Grandpa, you’re really something. Your ideas keep pace with the times. It’s not easy for Archibald to be in a relationship since he’s no longer young, and it’d be best if he really had a child. In that case, I will have not only a sister-in-law, but also a nephew. It’s great to buy one and get one free."

However, Beatrice didn’t think so. When she had seen the news, she had thought it was made-up. If there really was some woman pregnant with her son’s baby, it would be a top priority for her, and something serious for the Hawkins' family too.

After all, Archibald was the lineal grandson, so his child would be the first one of Ruben’s eldest son’s family. If it were a boy, he would take over the Hawkins' family business in the future, and the mother of

the child must be someone the Hawkins' family was satisfied with. Therefore, what Beatrice was more worried about was whether her son was really the baby’s father or not!

"Archibald, is that true? What kind of family is that woman from? Such thing can’t be handled casually," Beatrice asked, frowning.

"I know that. It’s a hostess called Lillian Spencer," May offered the answer.

Katie was totally afraid of this daughter of hers. She picked up a meatball and stuffed it into May’s mouth. "It’s none of your business. Shut up."

Archibald stared at his anxious mother and comforted, "Mom, just brush those news off."

"Lillian Spencer?" Ruben frowned slightly as if he was trying to recall something. Before long, he went on, "This name sounds familiar."

Beatrice’s frown deepened. A hostess of the media world? This was not some decent identity, at least not good enough for her son.

Archibald cared nothing for his family’s reaction. When he saw Ruben’s confused look, Archibald snickered, tilted his head slightly and whispered into his grandfather’s ear, "Grandpa, you met her in the hospital last time."

Ruben’s eyes gleamed. He suddenly realized, "So it’s her?" That virgin girl?

The rest of the people didn’t hear what Archibald said, and their eyes darted between the grandfather and grandson. Were they keeping a secret from them?

During the whole dinner, the most quiet people were uncle Edwin’s family. Both Serena and Benedict had been listening to them, while Benedict picked up Serena’s favorite food into her bowl considerately from time to time.

However, when Lillian’s name was brought up at the dinner table, something mysterious glinted in Benedict’s eyes.

Lillian’s case came to trial on Monday, and Stephen had already got her a lawyer. She didn’t want to do it, but the radio station wouldn’t let her off and forced her to make a choice, not to mention an out-of- court settlement.

In the morning, a swarm of journalists encircled the court. Once Lillian got off the car, they surged towards her. Luckily, bodyguards were dispatched from Archibald to protect her. Otherwise, Lillian couldn’t even make her way into the court.

Stephen also came with her, as well as Lawyer Bennett, the best lawyer of Millpond. Just at the age of 34, he had made such achievement and could be considered a big shot. Tall and handsome, Lawyer Bennett had captured the heart of many women of the legal profession.

Stephen had used to treat Lawyer Bennett’s family. It was because of this that Stephen was able to ask him for help.

Then a car stopped right behind Lillian’s car. The one getting off was exactly Sebastian. In a black suit, he looked statuesque and stern. On his right was his secretary, while on his left was another famous lawyer of Millpond, Lawyer Jimmy.

When the journalists saw Sebastian, they couldn’t help but be stunned and came to him in swarms, while the bodyguards behind Sebastian stepped forward to protect him at once.

"President Palmer, did you bring the lawyer with you today for Spencer’s case?" One of the journalists asked across the bodyguards. Exclusive content from NôvelDrama.Org.

Sebastian buttoned his suit and unexpectedly, answered the question posed by the journalist, "I think highly of Lillian. Since my media company is short of great hosts, I’m very willing to ask Lillian to join

my company after she is released from the radio station, and I’ll offer her the best platform."

It dawned on the journalists once Sebastian said that. It turned out that Sebastian appeared with his lawyer here to help Lillian in court, and he was also holding out an olive branch to her. As long as Lillian canceled the contract, Sebastian’s media company would accept her.

The journalists got excited secretly. It was Archibald alone who had made Lillian popular. Now, she was still having an affair with Archibald, while Sebastian came personally with his lawyer to help her. It was a story of the hero rescuing a beauty, but who would believe that Sebastian was doing this just because he valued Lillian as a talented hostess?

Archibald, Lillian, Sebastian, Joanna. Well, a great drama was on!

Lillian was astonished at Sebastian’s appearance, and what he said confused her even more. He wanted to ask her to join his company? What irony!

It wasn’t the first day that Sebastian had ever known what Lillian’s profession was. He owned a huge media company with so many A-listers, and many more artists wished they could join his company. It wasn’t that Lillian hadn’t dreamed of it before.

But in the past, Sebastian had never concerned himself with her work or life, nor had he ever thought of asking her to join his company for a better development. What this show was for at this moment?

Could it really be because she was a hostess too popular to get right now?

Sebastian walked up to Lillian and saw that gentle doctor, much to his disgust, next to her and Lawyer Bennett.

It didn’t occur to Sebastian that they had engaged this best lawyer. However, Sebastian’s secretary had told him before that Archibald had also contacted this Lawyer Bennett. Could it be that Lawyer Bennett

was engaged for Lillian by Archibald? Then why was Archibald nowhere to be seen?

"Lillian, this is Lawyer Jimmy, one of the leading people at the Bar," Sebastian introduced.

Lillian gave a lukewarm smile. "I’ve already got one." And her lawyer was a leading authority in the profession.

"It’s alright. We’re more likely to win if working together." Sebastian ignored the faint mockery and rejection in Lillian’s eyes.

"It’s almost time. Let’s go." Stephen had never liked Sebastian. He walked into the court with Lillian without even glancing at him.

Naturally, Sebastian didn’t want to talk to Stephen either. He walked towards the court with his people, following in the rear.

Since this court trial was not open to public, all the journalists were shut out, and they could only wait for the result outside.

Lillian and the others sat down in the dock, while the presiding judge and the procurator arrived one after the other. Oddly, the plaintiff seat was empty. The trial was going to start soon, but the plaintiff had not come yet. How would the trial go?
