Chapter 2300
Chapter 2300
At the same time, Justin also noticed Bella with Grant.
This harmonious scene was one he had seen before, etched in the black-and-white memories of his past. He had once watched her play and watched her laugh.
Time had passed, and now, another man stood in the place he had once occupied. Back then, it was he who had initiated the breakup, telling her not to waste time on him and advising her to find a better suitor.
Yet, as he watched his older brother clearly harbor feelings for Bella and saw how happy they seemed together, a bitter taste spread in Justin's mouth, one he couldn't describe.
Justin's fingers curled slightly, veins bulging on the back of his hand. It felt like there was a bee in his mouth, stinging the tip of his tongue. A faint pain and numbness quietly spread throughout his body.
As Justin's thoughts wandered, several cold snowflakes drifted down, brushing across his sharply defined face.
"Watch out!"
Suddenly, a large chunk of snow dislodged from a trembling, high tree branch, hurtling toward Justin and Clarice.
"Ah!"
Clarice let out a delicate cry, drawing the attention of everyone nearby, including Bella and Grant.
Seeing the snow about to fall on her, she shrank her shoulders in panic, leaning into the man next to her, who had not moved a muscle.
At that moment, Justin instinctively bent his head and leaned forward slightly, causing both of them to be covered in snow. A blanket of white enveloped them.
From Bella's perspective, it looked like the man was shielding the woman in his arms, which pierced her heart.
A surge of bitterness nearly overflowed from her tear-filled eyes. The painful emotions clawed at her throat, cutting deeply with every breath
At that moment, she felt as though her heart had shattered into pieces.
"These mischievous kids! I told them not to kick the tree, but they just wouldn't listen! Now look what happened!"
A teacher scolded the troublemaking children while continuously apologizing to Justin and Clarice. 'I'm so sorry! Are you two alright? Would you like to come inside, warm up by the heater, and dry your hair?"
"It's fine," Justin replied, his expression dark, standing still without even brushing the snow off his shoulders or head.
"It's okay; kids will be kids. A little mischief is only natural."
Clarice smiled warmly and kindly, then looked up at the tall man beside her, gently brushing the snow from his broad shoulders.
But Justin's gaze was fixed on Bella in the distance, entirely unaware of the woman's affectionate gestures. "My apologies, Mr. Grant," Bella said, her eyes tinged with red as she withdrew her pained gaze. Her voice was hoarse. Noticing her pallor, Grant quickly offered, 'T'll see you off."
"No need. Please stay."
With that, she gritted her teeth, turned around, and walked briskly toward the exit without looking back. Grant did not remain in place but instead maneuvered his wheelchair, slowly following her while
maintaining a respectful distance, careful not to make her feel uncomfortable.
Standing tall where he was, Justin watched them walk farther and farther away until they completely disappeared from view. His heart sank
"Mr. Justin, you're covered in snow too. You should come inside and warm up, or you might catch a cold."
Clarice reached out to pull Justin's arm, but he coldly brushed her off
"You go ahead. I don't need it."
With that, he strode away, leaving her behind.
"Mr. Justin!" Clarice stomped her foot in frustration, biting her lip in anger.
Bella's lips trembled as she walked hurriedly, wiping away the tears at the corner of her eyes.
