Chapter 49 - Unsettling Security
Chapter 49 - Unsettling Security
Arthur took a taxi to Alicia's residence that afternoon, as she had requested. "Arthur Oppa," she said
over the phone, "please don't draw too much attention; I don't want my neighbors to be suspicious of
me seeing someone with a super limited edition car coming here in broad daylight."
Exiting the taxi, Arthur proceeded through the entrance to the apartment complex, clad in blue jeans,
white long-sleeve shirt, and sneakers, giving him a very relaxed air. As he made his way to Alicia's
apartment, a security guard intercepted him. Original from NôvelDrama.Org.
Dave, the security guard, noticed Arthur's attire and, although it was stylish, he had arrived in a taxi.
Quickly guessing what he was here for, Dave asked, "What are you here for?"
Continuing, he asked, "Are you here to ask for a donation?"
Alicia's apartment consists of only 10 floors, making it an exclusive residence. Each floor was home to
either an individual or a family, creating a secure environment for its well-to-do inhabitants. The building
was well worth the investment with its luxurious amenities and steep price tag.
"I want to meet someone on the tenth floor," Arthur answered quietly, "I have made an appointment
with the tenant."
Dave remained suspicious of Arthur and asked, "Can you prove that you were invited here? Can you
show me your ID?"
Arthur quietly replied, "I was invited personally by the host, so I don't believe I need to present my ID."
Dave remained dubious, inquiring, "What's the purpose of your appointment?" His brow furrowed as he
awaited Arthur's response.
Arthur replied calmly, "I think that's not your business to know." His voice was even, but his expression
was resolute.
Dave took a deep breath as he heard Arthur's reply; it wasn't a surprise, as he was used to dealing with
people like him. Some wanted donations, while others just wanted to meet famous people living in the
apartment complex, as it was home to many influential people.
"Do you know how much a single floor in this apartment costs?" Dave asked, his eyes widening in
disbelief. "One million dollars! Are you sure you have friends living here who can afford such luxury?"
He shifted his gaze to Arthur's outfit, his brow furrowing skeptically. "You look quite dapper, but you only
took a taxi here. I'm surprised that your attire doesn't quite match up to what you said."
Arthur shook his head in disbelief. "How can you possibly judge someone based on their outward
appearance? Is it really so unbelievable for someone who took a taxi to be visiting a place like this?
Don't you think the less affluent should be allowed here too?"
Dave shook his head impatiently. "You're wasting my time. I know you only came here to ask for
donations. I suggest you leave before my patience wears thin."
Dave knew the young girl who lived on the 10th floor; she had a captivating beauty, and her features
were a mix of Western and Asian ancestry. He understood that many men would be drawn to her, and
he didn't want the man in front of him to disturb the residents of the apartment.
"So, show me the proof that you were invited by the people on the 10th floor," he demanded.
Arthur clicked his tongue in frustration and attempted to call Alicia, but there was no response from her.
"Alicia, where are you?" he asked, hoping for an answer.
After a few minutes, Arthur still hadn't received a response from Alicia.
Dave, meanwhile, was growing increasingly impatient and glanced back towards the security post,
signaling to his other colleagues.
Two other security men approached Dave, their faces expressing confusion. "What's wrong Dave?
Can't you chase away someone like him alone?” one of them asked.
Dave said with a chuckle, “This man here has delusions of being friends with Alicia, the very beautiful
new resident."
His other partner then studied Arthur with a critical eye. "I'm sure you need more money to approach
that girl, Mr.," he said sarcastically. "I know you're just a poor man trying to look rich with your
appearance."
Arthur tuned out the words of the people before him and attempted to call Alicia, yet she did not
answer. He tried multiple times, growing increasingly frustrated, but still not realizing that Alicia was
taking an extra long bath in order to look her absolute best for their upcoming encounter.
"You have two more minutes," one of them warned. "If you don't leave soon, we'll have no choice but to
kick you out."
"I understand that we all have the right to dream," Dave added, "but what you have done has gone too
far. You seem to think you have some connection to a person who is far beyond your reach. Are you
sure you can afford the lifestyle of the girl you're trying to get close to? You can always take a taxi here
if you need it."
Dave then took his wallet out of his pocket and withdrew a dollar, which he handed to Arthur. "Here you
go, Mr. – take this money as a token of my kindness, and leave this place. At least, it can buy you a
drink for the journey home," he said.
Dave's two friends laughed at what he was doing. "Oh Dave, you're so kind," one remarked. "I think our
two minutes are up – shall we kick this guy out of here now?" the other asked.
The two security guards stepped up to Arthur, attempting to take hold of his arms.
He stepped back and glared at them. "I suggest you stop your foolish behavior before you regret it,"
Arthur warned.
Undeterred, the guards continued with their disdainful expressions.
"Stop!" A voice echoed from the lobby of the apartment building. A young girl, wearing shorts, a bright
pink headscarf, and a pair of white sneakers, sprinted quickly towards them. She demanded fiercely,
"What do you think you're doing to my guest?"
"Ms. Alicia," Dave exclaimed, "this man came to ask for donations."
But Alicia ran up to Arthur and firmly grasped his right arm. "Don't you dare say that to him," she said
sternly. "He is my special guest. I can assure you he has more wealth than you think."
Without giving the security guards a chance to respond, Alicia hastily pulled Arthur in past them and
marched away, her grasp on his arm remaining firm.
The three security guards stood in bewildered amazement, transfixed by the events that had just
occurred.
Dave gasped in shock and disbelief, "Did I not see wrongly what was happening before me?"
"I think I heard that too," his friend replied, his eyes widening in disbelief. "Ms. Alicia actually accepted
that guy and even seemed very cozy with him. Could it be true that he's really a rich man who just
happened to come to this place by taxi?"
Anxious, another one added, "Oh, I hope Alicia doesn't report this incident. I'm afraid I might lose my
job if she does."
