Chapter 574
"He was brought just in time and is no longer in immediate danger. However, we'll need to conduct more examinations in the future to monitor for any potential aftereffects of frostbite," the doctor said. Marlene instantly felt relieved upon hearing it. "Alright, thank you, doctor."
She and Zayden then hurried to Malcolm's ward to check on him.
Yvette noticed that the doctor had omitted Noah's condition. She then asked, "How is my son, Noah Snyder, currently?"
The doctor sighed and replied, "That child has leukemia, and his condition has worsened as of late. He'll need to be hospitalized for close observation and treatment."
Yvette realized that she was unaware of Noah's worsening condition. She felt like she had failed as a mother.
Shannon and Clifford caught the doctor's words. Shannon's eyes were wide with surprise as she asked, "Noah has leukemia?"
"You're his family-are you only finding out about this now?" the doctor asked in return.
Shannon was rendered speechless.
All of them went to check on Noah and Malcolm in their wards.
Noah had medical equipment all around his body. He woke up to see Yvette and the others around him and slowly said, "I really didn't hurt Malcolm, Mom."
Yvette nodded and replied, "Alright, I believe in you. You should stop talking and rest up."
Shannon was equally worried. "Your great-grandpa and I also believe in you, Noah. We knew that it was that brat, Malcolm, who started causing trouble. Don't worry, Grandma will stand up for you." Noah still couldn't accept having a grandmother all of a sudden. He turned his face away.
Shannon looked embarrassed, but the pain in her eyes was unmistakable.
As both children were temporarily out of danger, and Clifford had been through a lot, he asked for Jeremiah and the others to head back for now. He then called Yvette and Shannon out of the room.
As soon as they were outside, he
struck the ground with his cane and asked, "How could you disappear with the children for five whole. years Yvette? You didn't even tell us
that Noah has such a severe illness."
Yvette didn't know how to respond.
Shannon was extremely angry. "If you told me that you were pregnant, I would've made sure you took care of yourself during your pregnancy. He wouldn't have gotten sick then." She continued to ask, "What about Zac? Is he sick as well?"
Yvette did not hide anything when faced with Shannon's concern. "Zac is very healthy and has no other concerns."
"Zac?" Clifford asked, perplexed.
Shannon explained, "Yvette had twins, Dad."
Clifford had always been envious of the great-grandchildren from other families. He was instantly overjoyed to hear that he suddenly had twin great-grandchildren. "Then where is he now?"
"I think he's staying with Yvette's friend, Kiki," Shannon replied.
"How could the children of the Lane family stay with others? Get both Zac and Noah to move back to Lane Mansion in two days' time," Clifford said.
He was talking to Shannon and not asking Yvette for her opinion. To them, she was only a child-bearing machine.Copyright by Nôv/elDrama.Org.
Yvette clenched her fists and said, "Both of them have to live with me."
Clifford immediately showed displeasure. "There's no such rule in the Lane family. You have to move to Lane Mansion if you want to live with your children-just like Marlene and the others."
He didn't give Yvette a chance to refuse again. Using his cane for support, he then walked to visit Malcolm in his room. Shannon glanced at her indifferently as well. Upon noticing the time, she bid goodbye to Noah before heading back to rest.
Other than Noah, the only people left in the ward were Xavier and Yvette. The room was exceptionally quiet for a moment with Noah asleep. Xavier hadn't said a word to Yvette ever since he'd learned that both Noah and Zachary were his children. He was waiting for her to explain.
