Chapter 144
Chapter 144
When it was time for dinner, Alastor was busy in the dining room.
Observing him as he diligently prepared dinner, Naomi could not help but feel bad for him. “How could your grandma send the housekeeper home, given her poor physical condition?”
In a low voice, Alastor rebuked, “Wendy had been taking care of Grandma in the hospital. She deserves to have a holiday today.”
Naomi’s heart broke as she watched her son toil in the dining room. Raising her voice, she said, “Even so, you shouldn’t be preparing dinner. Where is Anastasia? Get her to do it!”
“Why should she do it?” Alastor furrowed his brows in response to his mother’s words. “She has just had a miscarriage and is in poor health. She needs rest. Besides, what I’m doing now isn’t laborious.”
Naomi’s voice grew louder as she continued her barrage of scolding and said, “Don’t you know that men don’t belong in the kitchen? This family depends on you to bring home money. Meanwhile, she simply spends her days at home eating, sleeping, and eating again without working. It’s as if she just waits to enjoy the fruits of your labor. How can she do that? Does she think she’s a queen? All she seems to care about is raising a pet every day. I bet she doesn’t even know how to support herself without you.”
Those words were actually meant for Anastasia.
Alastor’s expression turned grim. He responded, “Are you done? Before Anastasia married me, did you ever care when I worked so hard at the company that I had gastrointestinal bleeding? Back then, Anastasia woke up at five or six in the morning, took the bus to the farmer’s market, fought with the crowds to buy groceries, and then took the bus home to cook food for me every day.”
Previously, Alastor had no idea of the hardship Anastasia had gone through for him.
He now understood that it was never an easy task to buy groceries and cook.
“I knew this vixen would lie to you. How could she be exhausted by buying groceries and cooking? What kind of housekeeper who takes care of cooking would spend so much money in a month? She spent a few hundred thousand dollars every time she headed out. I wonder who that asshole was that she spent money on. You are an idiot for being with such a woman.” Naomi could not stop her criticisms at this point.
With a gloomy face, Alastor threw the plates and cutlery onto the table before storming into the kitchen.
At this point, he really did not want to talk to his mother because there was no way to communicate with her.
Not to mention that he was never good at explaining himself.
“Stop doing the chores. Let Anastasia deal with them,” Naomi persisted, refusing to stop.
“She is a daughter-in-law. She should do these!” Naomi said with a snort.
Perhaps Naomi’s excessive cursing had pushed Andrea to her limit, prompting her to shout angrily, “Why don’t you do it? You are also a daughter-in-law.”
In fear, Naomi stood up straight and nervously looked at Andrea. “Mom, why are you here?”
“Don’t call me mom. I’m not your mother, as I will not raise my child to be like you,” Andrea expressed her anger while looking at Naomi. “Don’t you remember why Alastor’s father left home back then? It seems you haven’t reflected on yourself after so many years!”
In a panic, Naomi lowered her head and dared not retort.
“I don’t want to see you. Go home.” Andrea wanted Naomi to leave.
“Mom…” Naomi shouted nervously.
“Leave!” Grandma hit the wall, insisting on her command.
It was the first time that the elegant and dignified Andrea had gotten so angry.
“Grandma Andrea…” Anastasia’s eyes were red as she supported Andrea. She worried that the latter would get too angry and
harm her health.
“Grandma, don’t be angry.” Alastor also ran over nervously.
Alastor frowned and asked his mother to leave first, saying, “Mom, you should go home first.”
Meanwhile, Ella and the others were watching the scenes unfold before them.
Andrea then pointed at Ella and the people around the latter and gave her command, “I want you all to leave too.”
Ella and the others did not dare to further anger Andrea at this time, so they all got up and left quickly.
With resentment, Naomi glanced at Anastasia and thought, “This woman must have complained about me to Andrea. You have Alastor’s protection and Andrea’s indulgence, which has allowed you to enjoy four years of peaceful life in the Lopez residence, Anastasia. I’ll make sure you suffer when Andrea dies.”
Feeling indignant, Naomi clenched her hands and turned to leave.
“Grandma, don’t be angry. Your body wouldn’t be able to take it,” Alastor said as he supported Andrea and took her to the side.
With a smile, Andrea patted Anastasia on the back of her hand and said, “Anastasia, go to the kitchen and make an omelet for me.”
Anastasia’s eyes were teary, and she was choking with sobs as she nodded.
She knew that Andrea wanted her to leave so the latter could have a private talk with Alastor.
Alastor’s behavior of pressuring Anastasia to divorce but refusing to let her go was, indeed, beyond acceptable. This is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
