Chapter 49
Chapter 49 Don’t Do Such Dangerous Things Again!
Maia was taken aback by his question and stared at him with a puzzled look Cedric just smirked and said, “If you’re dead, how could you take revenge on me?”
Maia frowned at this as she realized now was not the right time to start arguing. She bit her lips and threw one of her arms around him.
As Cedric felt her arm tighten around his waist, he started to swim towards the rescue boat. Every time he exerted force, he could feel a ripping pain coming from his back.
The only thing that helped Cedric with the pain was the thought that he had to make sure that Maia would get to the boat safely.
When they got onto the rescue boat, Cedric immediately checked on the wound on Maia’s arm. Maia had been in the water fora long time, and her arms were already starting to turn purple from the lack of blood circulation.
“Hand me the first aid kit.” He took a look at her infected wound and frowned.
One of the rescue team members quickly handed Cedric the first aid kit. He took it and started to redress Maia’s wound. “Bear with me. It’s going to hurt.”
As he focused his attention on Maia’s wound, no one noticed that Cedric’s wound was also bleeding.
He was putting in extra effort to stay conscious as his hands started to tremble uncontrollably. After he was done, he fell back onto the side of the boat, exhausted.
At that moment, Maia noticed that something was amiss with Cedric. His face was shockingly pale. Just then, one of the rescue team members exclaimed in surprise, “Mr. Larkin, you’re bleeding!”
“What? Is he hurt?” The head of the rescue team rushed towards Cedric and checked on him.
He was stunned when he noticed the deep, open gash on Cedric’s back.
“My gosh! We need to send him to the hospital immediately!”
“I'm fine,” Cedric said quietly. He glanced at Maia and said breathlessly, “Try not to do something so dangerous next time.” Cedric was only human. He may not be able to be there the next time she got herself into danger. Before Maia could stop herself, she replied coldly, “I'll do as | please. What | do is none of your business.”
Cedric could only smile softly as he remembered that she was no longer the girl he once knew. +15 BONUS
glimpse at Maia before finally losing consciousness.
“Mr. Larkin! Can you hear me?” The rescue team kept calling out to him.
“Cedric,” Maia reached out to grab him. She was surprised when she felt the blood on his back. “Quick! Give me some gauze! Help me stop the bleeding!”
Everyone on board scrambled to help Maia administer first-aid treatment as she quickly applied pressure onto Cedric’s wound using the gauze they had.
“We need to get to the hospital as soon as possible!” “This is the fastest we can go!” the rescue team explained. Even if they wanted to help, there was no possible way to speed up the boat.
Maia felt lost as she looked at Cedric’s lifeless body. She could not forget that he had appeared to save her when she had lost all hope.
However, that ray of hope was soon replaced by the pain he had caused her. Still, she knew that she could not leave him to his demise, not when he had come to her rescue.
On their way to the hospital, Maia tried her best to call out to Cedric, hoping that he would somehow respond to her. Unfortunately, due to the amount of blood he had lost, he remained unconscious.
Although she was doing everything in her power to distance herself from him, she did not want him to die for her. That was too heavy a price for him to pay, and she did not need the extra burden.
Even after Maia’s voice turned hoarse, she continued calling out to him. Cedric showed no signs of life apart from his steady breathing.
His wound did not stop bleeding, as his blood flowed onto her hands, dying the gauze crimson.
They finally got to the hospital after 20 minutes. “Quick! Doctor, nurses, help!”
The rescue team dashed into the hospital, yelling, “There’s a severely injured patient, we need to get him to the emergency room now!”This is the property of Nô-velDrama.Org.
One of the local officers maintaining order in the hospital shouted in surprise as he recognized Cedric lying on the stretcher. Not long after, Cedric was wheeled into the emergency room, accompanied by the other rescue
Watching him go, Maia could finally heave a breath of relief.
The local officer who recognized Cedric knew who she was, too. He immediately said to her, Ms. Maia, are you okay?”
He had been quite shocked to see Cedric in Eldertown. He was not sure how to react after seeing Mala there as well. Maia turned towards the voice and was surprised to see Jordan. She had never expected the local officer to be Jordan! “Im a maths teacher at Eldertown’s local high school. Just call me Jordan!”
Before Maia could reply, he immediately suggested that she get changed as he noticed that she was soaking wet.
Maia mumbled a “thank you” before following him to the sports complex beside the hospital. It was set up as a temporary evacuation center.
Jordan handed her a clean tracksuit and pointed her to a nearby bathroom to get changed. Maia called out to him when she noticed he was about to leave.
“Is something wrong?” Jordan asked with concern.
“Cedric was injured because of me. Could you please keep an eye on him?” Maia hesitated for a moment before asking Jordan for a favor.
She was not thinking straight. Everything was a mess and she barely had any time to collect her thoughts.
Regardless of how much she despised him, Cedric was in this predicament because he had saved her. She could not just act like this was not a big deal. That was not her.
“Sure, I'll go check on him now. Don’t worry,” Jordan said without asking questions.
Maia thanked him gratefully as he assured her, “You're just like a niece to me. Just treat met like an uncle. There’s no need to feel bad.”
Jordan patted Maia on the shoulders lightly and left for the hospital.
Maia quickly changed into the tracksuit. As she returned to the hall, most of the survivors turned to look at her with curiosity. Maia could barely catch what they were saying about her.
“Wow, that’s really Maia Burgess! The post on Twitter wasn’t lying!” “| knew that she looked familiar the moment she entered the hall. | just wasn’t sure if she was who | thought she was.” “She's so pretty in person! Look at her, she makes such a plain tracksuit look like a couture
