Your Guise Is Slipping, Miss Pearl

Chapter 1268

Esther stopped crying.

"Don't worry, I'm not trying to use this situation to my advantage. I just like you a lot and hate to see you giving up. I want to tell you that many people like you. Why won't you let him go?"

Suddenly, a familiar voice came from behind the decorative garden stones. "Who is this man? Why didn't you say hello when you arrived?"

Luther walked up with a smile. "I apologize for not being more welcoming."

"Are you Luther?" Finnegan looked at the man, who was grinning widely. He sensed that something was off.

But he quickly realized why. Luther seemed so warm and friendly. No wonder he could easily win Esther over.

"Yes, what's your name?"

"Finnegan Fox."

"Oh, the Fox family heir." Luther's expression darkened slightly when he heard the name. It was a surprise that Esther knew Finnegan.

Also, he could tell from their earlier talk that Finnegan had feelings for Esther. It looked like he had more competition now.

"You're too kind. Why did you bring her here?" Finnegan was polite but clearly annoyed. Luther stood his ground. "No special reason. I was just clearing up some of her confusion." "How did you meet her?" Finnegan was sure Esther had never met Luther before. Luther must have had a reason to learn Esther's name and details and then get close to her intentionally.

"It's easy to meet someone. Plus, Mister Finnegan, you should have figured out who I am by now, right?"Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.

"You're related to the Crawfords?"

"Yes, but I'm embarrassed to say I'm just the family's illegitimate son."

There was a chill in Finnegan's gaze. "I knew that."

Luther was surprised since he didn't expect Finnegan to know. "Since you know, I won't say more."

"So, why did you bring her here?" Finnegan wanted to know, as Esther was still close by. If she heard the truth from Luther, she could let go of any false ideas.

"It's simple. The person James really loves is Esther, but he's pushing her away because of

his illness. I did this so they wouldn't have to be apart." Luther repeated what he had told Esther.

Finnegan looked more upset. "Tell the real story."

Luther gaped. "What real story? I'm telling the truth."

Seeing Finnegan's stern look, Luther teased, "I overheard some of your talk earlier. Mister Finnegan, I know you really like Esther, but it's clear she still cares about my brother. So, I hope you won't try to split them up."

Finnegan couldn't argue and turned to Esther. "So, who do you believe, him or me?"

Esther was caught in a tough spot. She looked back and forth between them, unsure what to do. "I don't know."

Suddenly, Finnegan let out a mocking sneer.
