Chapter 887
Karter had been out cold for a whole day and night before finally coming around the next morning. Connor and Flora dropped by to check on him.
In the hospital room, aside from Karter who was sprawled on the bed, Ryan and Adrian were there too. They'd both pulled an all-nighter, looking pretty wiped out, but managed to perk up when Flora and Connor walked in. "Hey, Flora." Karter greeted, his face as white as a sheet and his voice raspy, barely above a whisper.
Flora gave a gentle nod, her voice softer than usual. "Connor made some soup. It's great for helping you bounce back. You should try some."
Connor placed a food container on the table, opened it up, and ladled out some soup. The room was instantly filled with a mouthwatering aroma.
But Karter's face turned an interesting shade of green, his jaw tightening like he was fighting off something awful. Ryan noticed too, shooting Karter a worried glance.
"Wow, smells amazing!" Adrian chimed in, leaning closer. He hadn't had a bite all night and was starving. His eyes lit up at the sight of all that soup.
But then, he caught a whiff of something off. Sniffing the air, he asked, "Sis, did you put carrots in this?"
"Yep," Flora replied.NôvelDrama.Org holds this content.
Adrian scratched his head, "Dad can't stand carrots. Just the smell makes him queasy. He won't be able to eat this."
"Really?" Flora raised an eyebrow, a bit surprised. She hadn't planned on this, considering she had also tossed in a bunch of herbs to help Karter recover.
She glanced at Karter, who looked like he was suffering through some kind of torment, holding his breath as if the smell was too much to bear.
"Miss, he truly can't handle it. It's a physical reaction. I've already asked the staff to bring something else," Ryan chimed in.
"Alrighty then," Flora conceded. It
seemed like Karter really couldn't deal with carrots. She knew forcing someone to eat something they despise is nothing short of torture.
"Since Uncle's not eating it, Ryan, you and Adrian dig in," she suggested, not wanting the soup to go to waste.
Karter, in his mind, was nodding furiously-yes, yes, let them eat it, not him.
Wait a minute! Karter suddenly looked up, shocked, staring at Flora like he'd heard wrong. Did she just call him... Uncle?
"Uncle, you take it easy. I'm off to check on my dad," Flora said, oblivious to his surprise.
This time, Karter caught it loud and clear-Flora called him Uncle! It wasn't his imagination. Could this mean she'd accepted him?
"Hold up!" he called out just as she
was about to leave. "Don't listen to them. Who said I don't like carrots? I love them! I'm starving. Can bhave a taste?"
Flora was taken aback. Wasn't he just against it? But now he wanted to try some?
If he was game to eat, she wasn't about to stop him. She handed him a bowl, and Karter took it, downing the soup in no time, still buzzing with excitement.
Watching him finish so quickly, Flora was confused. Wasn't he supposed to dislike it? Yet, he seemed to enjoy it quite a bit.
"Want some more?" she asked, a tad hesitant.
Karter nodded eagerly. Whatever Flora said, he was all in now!
Connor quickly served up another bowl, and Karter polished it off just as enthusiastically.
Adrian and Ryan watched, completely amazed by the whole scene.
