Chapter 217
Chapter 217
With a smile tugging at her lips, Angeline commented in anticipation, “Really? If so, I’m eager to try his cooking. Please get me a bowl of the oatmeal.” NôvelDrama.Org owns © this.
“Sure!”
Francesca swiftly went to the kitchen. Shortly after, she returned with a bowl of steaming hot oatmeal, beaming from ear to ear.
Lifting her head, Angeline glanced at the pumpkin pie oatmeal. Hmm, it looks good.
After taking it from Francesca, she scooped a spoonful for a try. In a flash, a glimmer of surprise flittered across her eyes.
“Did you teach Evander this oatmeal recipe step by step, Francesca?”
“Not really. I merely told him the ingredients and their quantities. He was the one who did everything. How’s the taste?”
Angeline took another spoonful of oatmeal.
Her cheeks bulging and eyes closed slightly in enjoyment, she generously complimented, “It tastes incredible.”
It’s pretty similar to the oatmeal sold in restaurants. Never had I expected him to have such a talent for cooking!
Contrarily, Floretta, who stood at the side, eyeballed the bowl of oatmeal disdainfully. “You’ve got to be honest, Angel. Are you sure it doesn’t taste horrible?”
Hearing that, Angeline indulgently brushed a finger down the bridge of her nose.
“I’m not lying. This time, it’s really quite good. Would you and Sebastian like to try some too?”
Unexpectedly, Floretta snorted before snapping her head away and continued building toy blocks with Sebastian.
While doing so, she replied in displeasure, “Daddy is downright evil, neglecting his daughter now that he has a lover. He has long since told Francesca that he only made a bowl of oatmeal, and it was for you. It’s okay. I’m not important.”
Her final utterance was hissed out through gritted teeth. Exasperation swamped Angeline, and she inwardly grumbled about Evander’s pettiness that he would even be so calculative with his own daughter.
Stroking Floretta’s head, she consoled, “Never mind. When I’ve recovered, I’ll cook a feast for you, okay?”
“Okay!”
In response, Floretta raised her head and flashed Angeline a sweet smile.
Standing at the side, Francesca shook her head helplessly at that scene.
At the same time, she stared at Angeline in sheer admiration and remarked in a lowered voice, “You’re really amazing, Ms. Sorelle. Ms. Floretta always listens to you. I’m truly happy to see that you’ve reconciled with Mr. Golding.”
Reconciled…
That word inexorably startled Angeline, and a trace of skepticism welled within her.
I guess we’ve never really openly admitted that we’re together. But… since we’ve gone all the way and the final act of intimacy is already done, everything else isn’t important anymore.
“Thank you.”
Finally able to face it calmly, she lifted her head and beamed at Francesca.
Perhaps Grandpa is right—I’ve got to cherish those around me.
Meanwhile, Evander had just finished approving the last batch of documents at Golding Group when his phone rang timely.
It was a message from Angeline, who succinctly informed him of her condition.
She texted: I’ve eaten the oatmeal you made. It tasted incredibly good. I’m feeling better, so don’t worry.
At the end of it, she added an emoticon of an adorable smiling bear holding a ruby-red heart.
After Evander read that message, his initially grave expression gradually softened, and a gentle smile curved his lips.
His fingers hovered over the keypad for a long moment before he replied: Great. Drink more warm water and recuperate well. See you tonight.
Needless to say, that last remark was deliberate on his part. As he recalled the X-rated scenes yesterday night, his throat inexplicably went dry, and a searing sensation started coursing through him.
Out of the blue, something occurred to him. Opening the drawer, he took out a picture frame from within.
It held a photo of Angeline in her sleep. For once, she looked exceedingly docile, sleeping with her head resting on her arm while drooling. Indeed, it was challenging to link her with the perfect female celebrity on the silver screen.
He was staring at the picture in his hand when his office door was pushed open without warning, and Sylas slowly walked in with a pile of documents.
“Here’s the contract for the second phase of the real estate project in Coldbridge, Mr. Golding. Please take a look at it.”
“Sure. Bring it over,” Evander ordered in a deep voice.
Placing the picture frame on his desk, he picked up the pen at the side.
When Sylas walked over and handed the documents to the man, he inadvertently glimpsed the picture frame. Surprise promptly showed on his face.
Oh my God, the wait is finally over! Ultimately, he has gotten back together with Angeline. I almost thought that their relationship would end up ruined since Olivine capitalized on the opportunity to seduce him.
At that thought, he felt happy for the couple.
Something suddenly came to mind, and he divulged, “Oh yes, Mr. Golding, Mr. Levert of Joan Group is hosting a networking event tomorrow night. He invited quite a number of internationally renowned entrepreneurs. Ms. Sorelle will also be attending on behalf of Moistdore Cosmetics.”
“I see.”
Signing the document, Evander continued with a query, “Did we receive an invitation?”
“Of course!”
Sylas nodded in the affirmative.
“Prepare a suit for me. I’m going to attend on behalf of Starlight Jewelry,” he instructed solemnly.
Having said that, he got up from his chair and snagged the jacket draped over its back. “I’m going to the hospital to pick Floretta up tonight, so cancel any socializing events scheduled.”
“Understood,” Sylas answered respectfully.
Helplessness flooded him as he furtively stole a look at the documents that had just been signed on the desk.
A few days ago, he was still a workaholic who even took over the jobs of the specialists of the lowest ranks. But after getting back together with Angeline, he’s eager to be with her every second of every day!
After having dinner at the hospital, Evander had no choice but to leave early with Floretta since the latter had to wake up early the next day to attend kindergarten.
When it was time to part ways, Angeline and Sebastian went downstairs to see them off. Both the children were downcast. Despite keeping a tight hold on Evander’s hand, Floretta had her head hung low and her eyes red-rimmed.
“Let’s go.”
Evander opened the rear car door and gestured at her with his eyes.
At that precise moment, Sebastian abruptly reached out and clutched at the hem of Floretta’s shirt. Reluctance was written all over his face, and he shook his head profusely.
Having found a good friend who was willing to play with him at long last, he couldn’t bear to part with her.
Likewise, Floretta had already established a close friendship with him after their interaction in the past few days and was loath to be apart from him. Resisting the urge to burst into tears, she lifted her head and looked at Evander.
“Can Sebastian come and visit me at home in the future, Daddy?”
She choked up, and the look in her tear-filled eyes was beseeching.
Evander, on the other hand, had a grim expression on his handsome face.
He raised his eyes and glanced at Angeline before assenting, “Of course. He can come and visit at home anytime. If necessary, I can help arrange for him to attend the same kindergarten as you.”
“Really?”
Elation colored Floretta’s features. On the heels of that, she turned her hopeful gaze on Angeline.
“I don’t think that’s a good idea. The kindergarten Floretta attends must cost an arm and a leg a day. Sebastian hasn’t any special identity, so he can just attend an average kindergarten.”
