Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 61

Tears welled up in Selena's eyes as she tried to focus through the haze that blurred her vision. Callum's gentle smile and warm eyes came into view, cutting through the mist like a beacon. "Are you okay?" he asked, his voice soft and reassuring.

Selena accepted the handkerchief he offered, wiping her tears away with an unsteady hand. She sniffled, trying to regain her composure. "Yeah, I'm alright. Thanks."

Yet, Callum's eyes lingered on her neck. Despite her attempt to hide it with loose strands of hair, the bite marks stood out starkly, impossible to ignore.

Callum's eyebrows knit together slightly, a subtle sign of concern.

Realizing what had caught his attention, Selena awkwardly adjusted her hair to cover the marks better. She wasn't about to dive into that awkward explanation, so she shrugged it off with a quick, "Just a run-in with a crazy dog." Callum paused, then asked with mock seriousness, "Need me to give you a rabies shot?"

Selena blinked, then burst out laughing. "Dr. Campbell, aren't you supposed to be a heart specialist?"

"I'm a jack of all trades, you know."

Anyone else might have sounded like they were bragging, but Callum had the chops to back it up. He was a whiz in the medical world, after all.

Her sadness was momentarily forgotten, and Selena felt a wave of gratitude. "Thanks for that."

With his sharp instincts, Callum probably had a good grasp on what she'd been through, but he didn't pry or call her bluff. He let her keep her dignity and even managed to lift her spirits.

Callum gave her a gentle smile. "Let's head back inside. It's chilly out here, and we don't want you catching a cold."

"Yeah, good idea."NôvelDrama.Org owns this text.

Everett strode into the room with a brooding look, the air around him practically crackling with tension.

Jaime was younging on the couch, idly playing a game on his phonez He glanced up to see Everett's split lip and immediately connected the dots, remembering Everett had left

with Selena.

He couldn't help but tease, "You were gone for a while, huh? Looks like you and the missus had quite the heart-to-heart... So, you two patch things up?" "Spill the beans, man-what did I miss?"

But before Jaime could finish, Everett shot him a glare that could freeze fire.

Sensing the intense vibe, Jaime clamped up right away. Did he just put his foot in it again?

Everett grabbed his coat and phone, turning to Jaime with a curt instruction, "When Selena gets back, make sure she gets home. I'm out."

"What? You're just gonna leave like that?" Jaime asked, bewildered.

Not bothering to respond, Everett exited the room with purposeful strides. He knew if he stuck around, he might lose it and do something he'd regret. Jaime scratched his head, baffled. "What just happened here?"

Five minutes later, Selena walked in with Callum. Her eyes instinctively searched for Everett, but his chair was empty.

Noticing her glance, Jaime offered

an exp, "Hey, Everett had

sahe

some argent stuff to handle, so he

took off. But he made me promise to see you home safe."

'Urgent business at this hour?' Selena thought with a scoff. More like he was pissed because she didn't play along with whatever he wanted and left her hanging. Again.

She smirked, a mix of resignation and defiance in her expression. "It's okay. I can manage on my own."

Grabbing her coat and purse, she made for the door.

"Hold up, it's not safe for you to be out alone at this hour," Jaime called after her, jumping up to follow.

But Callum stepped in, blocking Jaime. "I'll take her. It's on my way back to the hospital."
